Do not believe this.
I have been stopped coming out of a rest area to have the log checked and all I did was pull in, go to the restroom and pullout. Less than 5 minutes.
I marked with a line.
DOT officer said he thought he would catch me.
He catches them all of the time with a log violation for not reporting change of duty. -
They always taught us in school that one goal each day is to stay off the news.
-
Technically yes you should put the city/state again, dot doesn't state write the city/state when you stop driving it states when you change duty status.. If you go from lines 1 to 2 its a change of duty status so therefore you must write the city/state, now how many officers write drivers up for not doing this.. I don't know that answer, I believe its not often but if you want to be a good boy you should do it
...
scottied67 Thanks this. -
I bet they do!
Any changes less than 15 minutes must be noted in the remark section and you must note the amount of time it took you.. You do not have to write I was using bathroom just the city/state and time it took you, however if you are doing a pre-trip or post-trip you should note on your log sheet that you are doing this. -
If you are "logging" your bathroom breaks "out of sleeper", you are one seriously OCD driver.
Don't know who told you to do this, but they really put one over on you.
Lemme ask you seriously.......
How will they know if you were really in sleeper, or sitting in movie room ???
Right.
There is your answer to whether you have to do it or not.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Just got a letter in my terminal mail box re: logbook violations because I left the BOL lines blank on my logs. I have alway done this and for almost 4 years not a word about it! Is this a new rule? I have had officers check my logs & they never said anything
-
Never mind....
After I posted I realized Bill of Laden. -
There is no rule that says you need to change your duty status if you walk into the truckstop for a minute for whatever reason.
Just like there is no rule that says where you have to be in your truck when you are off duty and taking a reset.
You can be in the drivers seat, passenger seat, sittin' in a lawn chair on the deck of your trailer or anyplace else that you choose to be, These guys that claim that you can be cited for sitting in the drivers seat when you are off duty are just wrong! As long as you are not under dispatch and are relieved of responsibility for the truck and the load during the time logged "Off Duty" you are off duty and you don't have to prove what you were doing during that time to anyone.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Soooo.....You're saying that if I wake up and hafta pee and I get up and walk inside to do that, That it's a change of duty that I have to log?
Let's play...
I'm takin' a 34 and I'm relaxing in my sleeper and then decide to get up and go for a walk. According to what you're saying here, Before I get out and go for a walk I have to draw a line in my book changing my duty status from "Sleeper Berth" to "Off Duty" but by doing that I have changed my status momentarily to on duty while I perform the "work related" task of changing my duty status thereby rendering the previous portion of my 34 moot and now requiring that I start the 34 again from "0".
According to this mindset I would either have to:
a. Stay in the sleeper for my entire 34 hour reset.
b. get out of the truck and stay out of the truck for my entire 34 hour reset.
c. Be on a reset for the rest of my life.
All of these scenarios are preposterous!
If anyone tries to log anything this way, They are an idiot and should be confined to a rubber room to protect them from themselves.Last edited: Feb 6, 2011
