In all the years I've been driving an offercer has never wanted to get in and how can you inspect my load sitting in the truck, you guys are full of it, like we don't know anybetter.

Lakewood NewJersey.... Off Duty cop in his own personal car runs a stop sign, talking on his cell... cuts me off, I lay on the horn, flip him off... then he stops dead in the lane to chew me out for flipping him off.... I see the uniform and say *&%$# . What a attitude he had....

I can only tell you what I did in a case like this. I stood where he told me (at the back of the truck) and kept my hands out of my pockets (like the lady cop, with the gun on her hip, told me). He searched my cab, my bedding, my suit case and even my dirty clothes I had in a bag. They didn't ask permission nor even tell me what they were about to do. Then he filled out some paperwork and sent me to the line of trucks to be x-rayed. When that was finished I drove to the gates again and the last feller told me I could go and I did. No permission asked, none given. They were polite but very stern and, might I add, professional.
As far as opening trailers, I've only had one seal broken by DOT. It was in Wisconsin on a Haz-Mat load and full Level 1 inspection. Before he broke it he explained what he was about to do and he would reseal it and note the old seal and reseal numbers on the report. I usually run reefers and on some loads I would need to talk some more with the officer before he broke the seal. There are some food loads that it would be a problem on (Kellogg comes to mind). I would have to ask if I could make some phone calls before they broke the seals on those. If they said no I would just have to stand back and let it happen. But then I'm a company driver and wouldn't have to buy the load, they would.

Mentioning a line of trucks sent to x-ray sounds like it was a Customs inspection at a border crossing . If so , you got off easy .

It was customs, coming back into the US. What else could they have done? Body cavity search? We would have had to have a talk if they would have wanted to do that.
