I need some help understanding this. If I run local, less than 12 hours a day, within 100 air mile radius, it seems the rules say the motor carrier has to maintain a time sheet in the office for me every day. Log book exempt. What if I run outside the radius in occasion, say once or twice every couple of weeks? Does this mean I should keep a log for the whole time just because I need one very occasionally? Keeping a log on my local days, would be absolutely ridiculous and very difficult to read.

if running a log, the previous week has to show, even if you need 1 day.

my advise is run a log so you are covered if you run out of the area.

some companies use the log as the time sheet. covering both bases.

I run within a 100 mile radius but because my company is in Nebraska and I drive thru Iowa I have to carry a log book.

you only need a log when going over the 12 hours. technically speaking.

it seems some of you guys also have other situations that require it.

it's kind of a confusing situation in the interpretation of the ruling.

There is no Federal regulation stating that.

Are you filling out a pre-trip or post trip inspection?

It is considered 100 air miles from where your office is . A 100 mile radius from that point . Im sure if your over it by a few miles they won't be sticklers but who knows ? A few miles I mean 2 maybe 3 if your 25 over you better cover yourself and have a logbook .
