We use a form for that where we write our odometer readings each time a state line is crossed.

Q: running under the 100 mile rule can you run pass that 100 mile radius as long as you return back to home base and don’t drive more than the 11 hrs and don’t do this more than 8 times in one calendar month?????????
-
No. That would be why it’s called the 100 mile rule.
Moving Forward Thanks this. -
Not true, you can exceed 100 miles 8 times a month or 30 days but you have to have paper logs, and previous days prior on short haul time card.
So every time you run over the 100 miles you need paper logs, but can only do that 8 times in 30 days, and the last time you hit the 101 miles starts your 30 again.
Don't think on Dec 25 your off with 7 days over 101, then January 1st you can start the 8 days again. If you use the 8th day on say the 4th of 01/18 your next 30 will start at the end of January.Moving Forward Thanks this. -
Yes, however as stated by others once you do not meet the criteria for the short haul exemption you must complete a paper log for that day. You are not required to have any other documentation with you for the previous 7 days. Now, with the ELD mandate, you can use a paper log 8 times in any 30 day period, and as previously stated that period is a rolling 30 days and does not reset at the first of each month.
-
That was my point. You can’t cross that boundary without turning in some extra paperwork.Moving Forward Thanks this.

No you don't keep a log for the entire time just the times you run over the radius. Keep in mind that if you have to use a log book more than 8 times a month you'll loose your exemption. Just make sure your time sheet and log book starting and ending times match.
-
Just a nit pick.. It's 8 times in any rolling 30 day period.Moving Forward Thanks this.

On the 100-mile rule, is it OK to cross a state line without requiring a log or does that immediately require a driver to log? During a training we had with a JJ Keller rep on Friday, he didn't know the answer to this.
