When I say this I mean no harm.

If worrying about how to do log books is your first question about becoming an O/O take all your money you have, even your bank account find a burn barrel put it in and enjoy the pretty colors as it burns. It will save you time because being an O/O is about running a business and not about how to get over on the man.
If you really want to make a go of being an O/O look at NASTC for their seminars about running a business, but I would humbly suggest at the minimum, easing on with a Landstar, Ace Doran, Mercer to get a feel for the industry without worrying overly much about customer base and progressing from there.

If a dope hound finds log books that would be a first
Dope hounds dont flip mattress' and crawl up in cubby holes.

Unless its one of the few Detection trained JRT's :biggrin_25514:
Anyway . . . . . loose leaf in a 3 ring binder is the only way to roll.
Guess we just wasnt smart enough to pull staples back then :biggrin_2559:

it's just a goofy scenerio I heard, though I have had a search warrant served on my car when a friend borrowed it and got pulled over. Interior body panels pulled off, edges of carpet pulled up, paperwork scattered everywhere...if they want to search your cab flipping the mattress is the least of your worries.

I have to say that the days of writing in a log book will be over soon...With electronic, portable devices, you better get good at driving and making money the right way...1 book.... Cheating days are over my friends..

1.) get on with a trucking company drive OTR for 6 months.
2.) Lease a truck from a dealer and get on with good company as mentioned above for one year.
    3) Only after those two steps do you make the decision to become O/O

Better than running more than one log book is to take immaculate care of your equipment, pay close attention to your MPG. If a driver gets great MPG they will also be driving in manor wich minamizes wear and tear, and damage on there truck as well. Pick out the right equipment, thats the smallest truck you will need for the job you will be doing. Being a truck stop warrior with a massive truck, and running 80 MPH all day long is way cool. Dying in sleeper a broke homeless bum with cool shiney truck not cool. Figure out how to plan your fuel stops. You can save massive $$$$ just by buying from the lowest pumps on or close to each of your routes, and avoiding high priced fuel. One log book, and driving, routing, trip planning, and getting right loads is all you need. E-logs there are small corners you can cut to fudge a few minuts here and there but not be in gross violation of the law. You should run the same way with paper logs.

    Tazz Thanks this.

If you get stopped by DoT and they want to check your log book. Toss it. The fine for no log book is less than the fine for a falsified log book.
