Its simple its called trip planning depending on when u have to be at a destination divide the miles by 60 figure 600miles if u want to run hard. Then use your atlas to figure out the town you want to stay at night.

A Rand McNally Road Atlas and a book called Next Exit are all I really use any more for route planning, yes I have a GPS but I don't trust it to not get me into trouble. IMO once I'm East of California worrying about a place to stop is over. Scales are usually just at ports of entry to a state but if one of the others happens to be open then I stop if need be. This is a very easy job, I think you are just making it out to be more than it is.harmin5288 Thanks this.

I ran that lane for years and know what you are talking about. Seen many drivers get calculator speeding tickets. So for those that have not run that lane week in and week out it is hard to understand that the LEO, especially the OR LEO, knows the I-5 corridor better than most drivers.
But OP, the real world is not the I-5. Far fewer scales to pass and they are not as focussed on 3-mins off on you logs the way OR is.
The other sentiment that came across in your post is that you are running so cheap that you HAVE to make everything work perfect so you don't lose a minute of drive time or money. Time to change gigs. You can make good money driving less miles and have a life.harmin5288 Thanks this. -
well when 11 are up back up 10 hrs keep trucking just plan to match fuel tickets,no tolls truck on

If your truck will do the higher speed limits out west, then when you start your day you should be able to figure out how far you can legally go in a day using a rate of 5 mph under the speed limit for each state. If you are going a few mph over the limits like CA and OR it usually won't be enough of a factor if they look at your logs enroute, as long as you do not exceed the total miles that you could have legally done doing the speed limit.

OP its pretty relax to the east legally you can do 600 miles with a governed truck dont let ur dispatch push u beyond that when u get ur preplan always say let me check my hours n pull out ur Atlas punch it on the GPS n see what u can run always take in consideration any dead head miles from ur shift or if ur shift is already in progress see what u can run n cant. Then request move your appointment so u can be there legally, on 10 hours start looking where to park. You will be ok and yes a 10 dollar Atlas will show u where the scales are at. GOOD LUCK.

What he is doing is logging like I use to log. He is logging by mile and not actual time. So pretty much he is saying if the next scale is 800 miles away. He is going to drive till he gets close to a scale. Once you pass it. You keep trucking. Sad part is he doesn't know what a Motor Carrier Atlas is. Also Colorado checks your times you went through the other scales in Colorado. That's what got me busted.
Doesn't make sense to speed and risk getting a ticket. Only to wait 15 or 30 mins for your time to catch up to pass the scale. Also watch out for logging same speed limit multiple days in a row. Best thing to do is just log it like you drive it.
Also if you really running hard. Your fuel will never match up. You can forget about it.harmin5288 Thanks this. -
I currently run MS Streets and Trips 2008, wonder if the Points Of Intrest file would work in this older software? Maybe that would be a question for MS...
I do like the program though. I had the '06 version with the GPS.. Had to waterproof the transducer so it would live out there on the air filter can.. lol.. It doesn't like the great outdoors! -
The new GPS node runs fine inside the truck. I ran a usb extension cord to the inside passenger handle and it sees the sattelites great. As far as the POI update goes, I believe it is backward compatable to 2008. But really, is $69 too much to upgrade? JMO.

Thats pretty much what I think I was looking for....Here in WA and OR they do give calculator tickets for pretty much anything over 3 minutes. What it sounds like that it is just WA and OR. From your posts, it seems that east of OR and CA, it's not as strict as the 3 mins over here.
