that was wrong, they got that from a 1988 survey, that was about drug and alcohol related crashes I read that also.. Go to OOIDAS page and read the real report.. I even called FMCSa and verified it..

Ok Landline Magazine...OOIDA... I just double checked to be sure the information I was giving is correct. From the NTSB...a segment of the article and quote " 31 percent number comes from an obsecure NTSB safety study back in 1988. The title of the study is "Fatigue, Alcohol, Other Drugs and Medical Factors" The study looked at 186 accidents in eight states where the truck driver was killed. The primary purpose of this study was to assess the role that alcohol and other drugs played in the fatal accident." This was publicl0y communicated in September of 2010. It was called "Historic Truck Crash Declines" the relevant number is 1.4%. Now there is more to this article than I have typed, however this is where I have gathered my information from.

The regs are coming because we have a government bloated with bureaucrats with nothing better to do than justify making new rules and regulations that they themselves will never have to follow...

Trucking right now is as safe or safer than it has ever been... OOS write-ups are down, accidents are down, fatigued drivers are down yet we get more and more complicated and asinine regulations...

There are no new regs in CSA 2010. I do agree with your statement about the government being to big though.

If there are new regs coming mandating eLogs it not because of our government. The big trucking companies are pushing for the regs. Unless you are saying companies like Swift and Werner are actually run by the government..
Look at this a different way. eLog will prevent that demanding dispatcher from giving you a load you know you will have to run illegal to deliver. Modern electronics are a two way street. Personally I welcome them, but they will not stop me from taking a break if I have too.. They will only prove why I need to talk a break.

As reported in Transport Topics 11/29/10 page 24, a bill that would require all trucks to use EOBR has not yet cleared the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and no hearings have been held.

You have got to be kidding, right?

The big outfits are pushing for electronic logs and EOBR's because the DOT is threatening them with a heavy hand if they don't comply! Any honest mistake by a driver puts the company's business at risk... how can THAT be justified? It's nothing less than blackmail.

The outfit I'm leased to has the DOT on campus RIGHT NOW... all this week as a matter of fact. At least four days of scrutiny for an operation with 15 trucks! You have to be kidding... if this isn't harassment by the Feds I don't don't know what is...

Have we had a few problems? Yep... we have. But we have an good safety record... and isn't that what it's all about? Nope... the DOT wants total control over everything in your trucking life.

How about the bill in the Congress right now that will, if enacted, have the Feds take over the movement of every load in the country all in the name of reducing CO2 emissions. It was introduced by the wonderful Frank Lautenberg of NJ and Patty Murray of WA.... Sure it's starts out with the goal of smoothing out traffic jams by encouraging intermodal moves, etc. But the goal is to eventually have the US government take over freight movements... they have done such a good job over the years with social security, the post office, the IRS, etc. that I guess they need to spread more of their 'wisdom' onto the unwashed masses...

How does the ATA and most US trucking companies justify laying down for the Feds rather than standing up for what's right? Our industry has spent billions of dollars complying with safety and emission regs that have done little or nothing to improve our world? Greenhouse gasses from man contributing to Global warming? Get real... tell the next major volcano that it can't spews billions of pounds of ash and CO2 into the air and see how far you get...

The little guy is getting shafted and few people care...

    Nope not kidding..

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-here/123869-five-bad-trucking-companies.html

It's so dang easy to blame everything on the government.. Don't know how many times I have seen posts on this and other forums alluding to politicians bought off by big business and when legislation is passed we don't like we scream those dang Dem or those darn Reps..

Those sitting in office won't do a dang thing that isn't pushed by a large non-profit lobbyist or big business except to raise their own salaries and something that makes them look good.

Frankly I am tired of hearing people blame all the ills of the world on the people THEY put in office.

Don't even get me started on those on government payrolls.. Other than Law Enforcement or Fire/EMS they are some of the laziest people getting a paycheck.

Amen! Very well said. I for one have been on E-Logs for exactly one year now because of what the industry has turned into. Having a commercial drivers license and being watched over by countless people in and out of the trucking industry I have strived for 27+ years to do it legally. I just want to take this moment to thank all the yahoo's out there that helped bring this upon us, Thank You! I am now completely adjusted to E-Logs and am still making good money, Legally. Wake up people, it's just a matter of time before this will be mandated for every commercial vehicle on the road, just like Airline Pilots.
