I will lie on my log book for my own benefit!! I feel the h.o.s. if you always run by them it is unsafe. they will have you sleeping when your not tired, and and running when you are tired.. I have had dispachers in the past that would just tell you get it there no matter what.. and dispachers that worked with me in any situation. I will work with the good ones dispachers i mean, but will never lie on my log book to get a load delivered to benefit anybody but myself!!!

I don't outright LIE in my logbook, but beyond not taking an hour that I didn't really take and similar 'fibs' I don't know any way to cheat big time.
But then I work for a penny paying big company.
The thing is I flow in all my log sheets. And the Log Nazi checks them out. I have to VI and PTI at the same location.
I suppose I could have one book for DOT and another for Company but that makes my head hurt! -
I work for a mom and pop, I've never once been told to do anything other than run legal. If I fudge, lie, or otherwise, it's up to me.
dwayne and Ranger_309 Thank this. -
Log it as I do it.

For me there's an occasional favor in there for the boss sometimes. But I've never been asked to do anything the boss wouldn't do himself. -
Ranger_309 Thanks this.

In today's electronic world, it's too easy to figure out where you've been. Sure, you might fool a DOT cop at the roadside, and you might get through a scale alright, but if you were to have a serious accident, they'll really dig into things.
Debit Card and Cell phone records, fuel receipts, ECM off of the truck, there are security cameras everywhere these days. I'm leaving a bunch out. Most every smart phone has a GPS in it anymore. Think they can't subpoena those records if there's a traffic death? Things just aren't the way they used to be..........One Nation, Under Surveillance!
I've seen it happen. I know a guy that went through legal hell because a young girl with a really wealthy and well know father pulled out in front of his flatbed at a cross road on a 4-lane highway. She died. He was not at fault in the accident, but he wasn't where his logbook said he should have been and he was over on his 14. This was in '04 after the first HOS change. He had a logbook that looked real nice and legal and it was found to be fraudulent within hours.
Seriously, over the next few days, really pay attention to the trail you leave electronically. There's ALWAYs gonna be an ambulance chasing lawyer, with dollar signs in his eyes, ready to dig, dig, and dig some more.
I just don't think it's worth it. I've been out here a while, though. A little over 17 years. I don't know what it's like to be a newbie right now scratching and clawing to a decent pay day. I'm glad I don't have to make those decisions anymore. -
Yep, but there are times when you have to very careful about it though. Even with prepass, I've learned that some of these states "talk" to each other more then you think they do. -
Well problem solved.I did ask to run legal and was told the truck couldnt make any money that way. What Ive worried about all along is the serious wreck thing.Even if Im in a wreck thats someone elses fault which involves serious injury or death Im screwed. So I resigned and went back to my old job hauling scrap cars on a stepdeck. Not the most glamorous job but it pays close to 1000 a week takehome and we make out our own bills so theres no time stamped on everything we get.Theres no way to haul more than one load in a given time period so no need to do any major logbook lying.I feel great about my decision.
