DUDE.....step away from the truck stop coffee counter lawyers hand book and read the once little green book that the FMCSA wrote. The recap is nothing more then for a driver to easily keep track of his/her available hours at a glance, nothing more.
If you wish, you can write out your log on a napkin, found at most any truck stop coffee counter, so long as it has the required information as spelled out in Scalematser's post below.

As long as your writing them I have a request for a couple minor changes please.

You scale master type's need to fan the scale house door every now and then to get a little fresh air in there:biggrin_25525:

You always have to keep in mind, reality is not the same as perception. That idiot checking your logs has the badge and gun. He might be having a bad day because his wife ticked him off because she bought a new living room set or something and maxed out his credit card. And you want to play "I know the regulations better than you do games". You can sit and play all the what is required or not games you want, but if that character wants to take out his frustration at your expense, he will. And your CSA scores will take a hit. It is sooooo much easier to just cross all the t's and dot all the i's including doing a recap on that log than going thru the headaches of trying to prove how right your interpretation of things is. And since the recap lets you see at a quick glance what you have available and what, for load planning purposes, what you will pick up for hours if you are unable to pull off a reset, it just seems smart to do it. Especially since doing the recap only take a minute at best. That LEO at the scale will take a lot longer than that to mess with your time. I will agree the recap is not required to be on the book, but it is a useful tool for a driver to keep track of things and has a certain benefit.

Why fight over a gnat and then swallow a camel?

Ok i live just 15 miles from the E-town coop, you do not have to keep a recap, when asked about it i tell them i keep up with it in my head. as far as Ky dot advise goes, let it go thru 1 ear and out the other. we called 2 different ky coops about replacing auto slack adjusters with manual adjusters and was told no problem as long as brakes where properly adjusted. called Oh and In and Ar adn was told we would be put out of service. They also told us it don't matter what Ky will or won't enforce, it is what the law says.

This is where all this piling on of regulations has brought us to. There are so many regulations, with 3 interpretations for every two people looking at them, and a bunch of LEO's looking like Keystone Cops running around saying which interpretation is correct, therefore lending interpretations on the interpretations.

Kinda makes you wonder how we actually won WW II, doesn't it? But it does explain how we have not truly won anything since. King George has got to be rolling over in his grave, laughing from hysteria at all this. And this is what I spent 7 years in the military defending. Should have just stayed home.

I never do a recap unless I have worked more than six days as long as you have had a day off in the last 7 days they really just look at your daly tally

Companies that operate 7 days a week can work 70 hours in 8 days before having to do a restart. Companies that don't operate everyday of the week are allowed to work 60 hours in 7 days with out a restart.

Local (Shorthaul) drivers are allowed to work 12 hours a day before having to take a 10 hour break.

I guess short haul you could get 60 hours in M-F, take a 34 hour restart and work again Sunday 12 hours for a total of 72 hours but that would mess the driver up on his next weeks hours as the recap rolls. Shorthaul it's best to work a steady schedule with regular days off.

Let's say your company operates everyday and you go outside the 100 miles circle everyday and are paid by the hour. Then you fall under the normal rules and log like a long haul driver. Then you are restricted to driving 11 hours in a 14 hour period but you could get back to the terminal and work any amount of hours not driving. You just have to take off 10 hours before you return driving. That case you could get you 70 hours in quickly then do a 34 hour and still have a day or two to rack up some more hours.

Again managing a recap you need to work a semi-steady pace to have consistency. One can go 3-4 weeks easy without a restart if they don't go crazy. You start pushing for a excessively good week the next week won't be so good.
