It depends on what your work is. If it is on-duty not driving, you can work as much as you want. Once you have reached your 70/8 you have to either recapture hours along with having 10 hours off duty/sleeper berth, or do a qualifying reset before you can drive again.

I never did a recap either, at least on paper. I used to do it on a calculator but never used the grid provided on the logs if there was one until now...........Now the company I work for wants it done. So after 17 years of driving I have to do it every day. For what reason I don't know because I rarely come close to my 70. I've also never had a DOT officer question it or even look for my recap. If they are an attentive officer they will not rely on the recap anyway and count the hours up themselves. Oh yeah, just to concur with the others, a recap is not required. -
