The 14 clock is usually what stops me. I think Ive had 2 times where it was the 11 hr clock. When I leave oit sunday, if I can I drive the whole way there. If its not to far away. You must remember this though, the later you end your day, the later you start the next day. If you shut down at midnight, guess what, you aint moving until 10 am. Its a cycle that only you can break by holding your empty message until your ready to roll. You are well aware of my home time issues. Everything Ive posted here has been the truth!! I got home last night at 2100. If I dont quit today, I will have to leave tomorrow around 0800. That aint much home time, in my opinion.
The thing is, I dont wanna jump until I have somewhere to land. I cant find anywhere to land because Im never home!

I don't know Blind, I wonder if location has something to do with it? Talked to a TMC driver at AK Steel in Ashland KY and he swore by this company and said he is home every single weekend and he highly recommends them to anyone looking into flatbed. I would really like to figure all this out because I am about to start my final week at the truck driving academy and am interested in flatbed.

I live at the intersection of I40 and I26 in western nc. They are both major freight lanes. Im not getting home for reasons beyond my control. I have to leave here very soon to head to ohio. I am a man of my word. I have a major deal in the works, hopefully I will know something today. As soon as I can, y'all can tell me g'bye!

Does the deal have something to do with trucking?
What I think the deal is at TMC. It's kind of like playing musical chairs. They probably get a very high percentage of their drivers home on weekends but can't get all home. They probably give priority to seniority and performance. It may be the kind of thing you just have to wait to get to a certain level.

All that aside, I just can't get over the long delays during pick up and delivery. My limited experience found on average flatbed is 3x as long at customer than dry van. Loved the drop and hook. Flatbed was a long day. 14hr clock usually the issue. We make money on the 11 hr clock. I'd much rather be bumping the 11 instead of the 14.

I'm trying to figure your dilemma out. I only read the past three pages. A few tips on the road. Your load is your first priority. I agree with the dispatcher and you should of used that 4.5 hours towards your break if that's what it took to get the load completed on time. Not all loads are like that but the ones that are you do what you can to be a team player. Stock your truck with food and entertainment. Then it isn't so bad. You are not going to get a shower every day. You are not going to sleep in a truck stop everyday. If that bothers you, you need to drive local. My last job the majority of my breaks were at the shipper or receiver.

You are currently under load and want to go home. You don't take loads home unless you can park the trailer behind a fence or at your house. You go home empty. Loaded trailers get stolen everyday. A flatbed? Easy pickin's. Things worked out strangely. You have to take the bad loads with the good. You are new. What a week out on your own? You are going to get more than your fair share of crappy loads until the dispatcher gets to know you. Work with him and not against him. Your relationship can go two directions. He'll see you as a complainer and your relationship and job will slowly sour. Or he'll see you as one that gets the job done, easy going and needs minimal supervision. Those type drivers he will take care of first. It might not happen overnight but it will gradually get better.

There's a whole bunch of things out there to piss a person off. Learn to deal with them in a positive light and stress free as possible. The bad job magically turns into a good job.

    Hegemeister Thanks this.
