Logging "Off Duty, Driving"

    Not hard at all if the inspection form was correctly dated and checked against his logs .

    That officer is one of those that doesn't have a clue about HOS . You don't have to flag any off duty time .
    The issue of pulling a trailer while off duty has come up before . Mike_MD stated if the trailer is empty you are unladen and able to log off duty . The exception would be if the trailer itself was the load . For example , a new trailer being delivered .

    Maybe so for an annual inspection, but if a feller is just wrenching on his truck in his driveway how will it ever be proven?

    That's assuming a guy doesn't have a DOT officer living nearby or driving by at the precise moment he's doing said wrenching.

    All O/O's are required to keep a "log" of repairs to the truck. Date and what was done to the truck. I got a nice lecture on our "startup" audit about this. You also have to keep copies of the receipts for the parts in that "log" as well. So, if your honest about the day you turned the wrench, then your screwed. :biggrin_25511:

    Thank goodness the boys do most of our light maintenance and repairs, just to give dad a break.

    I forgot about that.

    Who's to say that an O/O doesn't have a diesel mechanic as a friend who comes over and does all the work for him for a couple beers and a steak dinner?

    I'll take psanderson's word for this over Rick's all day long. It's #### near impossible to prove.

    Well we have the boys do ours, most of the time. By the time he gets home, he'd done looking at the truck. LOL Our 20yr old worked in a diesel shop all thru high school, so we trust him and our youngest is an electrical guru, so we are set.

    I agree, Mr Sanderson has never tried to steer anyone wrong here, so I would go with his word as well. :yes2557:
