First off I dont think DOT can "make you" do a pre-trip just to satisfy their curiosity. And if they do say do a 15 minute pre-trip and it takes you 17 all it means is you did that one in 17 minutes

I bet you've falsified your logs too. How about this scenario, which is very common? You arrive at 1pm for your 2pm live load appointment. When you arrived, you had 4 hours left on your 14 and 4 on your 11 as well. You did not split your last break. You are told to park off to the side of their lot and told that they'll knock on your door when they are ready for you to put it in a dock. You take a nap and they wake you up at 4PM and tell you to put it in a door, and they'll wake you up again when they're done. At 7 PM they tell you you're done and you have to pull it out of the dock and get your bills, but they dont rush you off the property.

Lets say youre a really good sleeper and by 9PM (when you'd have an 8 hr break in and be able to roll), you've had 6 hours of sleep.

Are you seriously telling me you're going to log it as it is and take an 8 hour break on top of it all?

You probably don't know how to split break either (its fine with me, it's confusing as all hell), so if thats the case it'll be a 10 hour.

Also, you don't make sense. What about a car hauler? They're like 6 inches off the ground, how exactly do you do you get under that? Do you dig a big hole first? What will your company say when you're spending 4 hours to do your pre-trips because you're digging a big hole every time you do it? Hell, what will the customers say when they find the dang holes?

I agree. I honestly think this business is an urban legend. Also, it would take me longer to do one in front of a cop. I'd be nervous as all hell, and that would slow me down. If i got a ticket i'd take it to court with a good lawyer over just that fact. I get nervous around cops. I had a very bad experience with the sherriff's dept and will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever trust the law again. Those jerks wanted to ruin my life just because someone lied to them.

I'll just stop ya right there. I wouldn't have managed my time to arrive at a live unload with only 2 hours available from the appointment time. I always plan for at least 2 hours at a live unload starting at the appointment time. I've only been driving for a year, but after 200 loads, I've yet to be late/run out of hours # a shipper. Not saying I'm perfect, but planning ahead goes a long way.

Actually, I do know how and have made use of this several times. Quite handy.

    This is a joke, right?

It's no urban legend. Imagine getting in an accident and having to prove to the prosecution that you can do a legal pretrip in 15 minutes. If you can't, goodbye career.

200 loads in a year? You must be running a bunch of short runs lol. Glad I'm out of it actually.

Average run is roughly 600 miles. As of late they've been in the 800 to 1400 mile range. Lovin it.

Wrong. It means that you logged it as 15 minutes, but it took longer than 15. Therefore you falsified your log.

You really expect me to believe you got 120,000 miles in your rookie year in this economy?

Well you are entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it is. I dont do a whole lot of reading in the little bible so please show me where it says that DOT can make you "do a pre-trip" and then please show me in the same book where it says that if someone logged a 15 minute pre-trip one day and if they watched you do one in 17 minutes the next day, it would be a falsification for the 15 minute one. Make a believer out of me.

How is it that difficult to understand that if you log that you did it in 15 minutes, but it took you *longer* than 15 minutes, you've lied?

One month to go until I've got a year. Right my total number of miles according to my company is 103,217.
