As a trainer at Roehl I will share how we do it. Trainers fill out their logs, students fill out theirs. I pretty much have to tell the student what to write and help them with the mistakes. Good thing there is white-out and yes it is legal. We only sign our own log sheet. I don't understand what signing each others' logs would accomplish. If there is a mistake does the DOT give both drivers a ticket or would you split it? If the trainer is in the jump seat he is "supposed" to be "on duty not driving", if he is in the sleeper well then log sleeper. At Roehl for the first five days of training the trainer has to on duty while the student drives and vise versa. After that we can off set the ten hour breaks. I always get in the jump seat whenever a student crosses a scale. We really don't cross too many scales anymore with Prepass but the student needs to know what to do at all the different kinds out there. I don't think it looks suspicious. It looks like a trainer showing a new guy how to cross a scale. I have yet to be pulled in but if that happens and I am logged in the sleeper I will tell the DOT guy that I got in the jump seat to show him how to cross.

I wish I had time on the road some before I took my test. I passed my test in Tennessee, but I still would have liked to have more time before taking the road test. I am a new SWIFT driver.

Some of those you do not have to do for the DOT you are not required to log an odometer reading or draw brakets and they do not require a recap or to state what your doing ie: pretrip loading etc..
you might want to for your own info or because the company wants it but any info you make avalible to the DOT they might try to screw you with

hell you can even write real small and keep your days out of order if you want to mess with them not a good idea most of the time but if you do better be right
