Definitely tires. Drive it first because that truck probably is spring ride with a fixed cab. It will ride rough. Are you buying it because you like the truck and want an older truck? If you are looking for a cheap truck you could find newer ones the will ride better and be more comfortable for a little more money. Just search the truck paper online with a detailed search.
heyns57 Thanks this. -
It does have an air ride seat though...but you know you arent supposed to put air in thos.
I also have a 96 western star offered to me for $8000, needs new batteries, i dont have pics, and supppposedly has good tires. Of course this guy with the cabover also says "oh it just needs a new steering box for $200" and fails to mention the bald tires...what else did he fail to mention....
Im kinda thinking the western star is gonna be the same price after i get some recaps put on the cabover..heh. -
southernpride tells me this truck has no power and is worth half of the asking price.
-
reminds me of the first cab-over that i drove back in '77, 290 horse with a 10 sp. not much room, & yes you had to put your pants on lying down.

That looks like an 8V92 Detroit in that truck...It's a pretty horrible motor. I had one in a truck I bought from a guy cheap back in '84 when they were still very common and it was not good.
I would defenitly pass on it!
The story about the 1979 Peterbilt wrecker has a hole in it too...By 1979 all Peterbilts had "low mounted" door handles!
The conventionals had flush mounted handles (since the introduction of the 359 in the early 70's) and the COE's got them in '78 or '79 but they were not flush mounted until the 372 was introduced.
The later 352 "low mount" door handles were identical to the earlier "high mount" door handles but were just mounted lower on the door for a couple of years untill they could get the new 372 COE out. -
I bought a new 4070A with an 8V71 in 1973, and earned a living with it for nine years. I went deaf, bought add-oil by the case, etc. The A and B had beautiful aluminum bodies without all of the rivets and flat panels of the so-called expensive trucks.
I did not know there was an 6V71. I thought they came out with a 6V92 about that time.
The B is the same cab as the A except for the plastic interior that reduces the interior space. The B was 6 inches higher to accommodate larger radiators for higher horsepower engines. The cab was raised and a step added below the door. I prefer the A interior. -
I bet that motor is a 6v92 or a 8v92. The 6v92 was marketed as a fuel saver. Underpowered and an oil leaker. The 8v92 was a better for power but, still an oil leaker.
That truck is a HOBBY truck or limited use truck at best. If a person was going to use this truck they need to have mechanical skills. -
I bought a '94 Pete last year that I've been slowly but surely rebuilding. A little at a time whenever I had the money. If you have the time and money, go for it. Do like I am doing, have fun with it. Then if it makes you money that's all the better.
PS: Listen to what AMPMWayne says, he is a wealth of information and common sense...1989 Pete, ampm wayne and rollin coal Thank this.
