I STILL have bad dreams about an International cabover I drove back in the early 90s.

I put a LOT of miles on that truck......like to have killed me.

The following is from my old 1969 Motor's Truck Repair Manual, Detroit Diesel section:

    6v-71N... 426 cu.in... CR 18.7:1...218 HP@2100rpm...604ft. lbs@1200 rpm

BTW, the 71 refers to the cu in of 1 cylinder.

Forget about stopping oil leaks on a DD. They're a 2-stroke with a supercharger and build pressure in the base. DD could never combat this successfully despite years of trying.:biggrin_2559:

You could always tell a deeetroit driver but you couldn't tell him much 'cause he couldn't hear you for at least 2 hours after he got outa the truck.:biggrin_2559:

Plusses about those International CO's? They could out-steer and out-handle any other CO on the road (as long as they had the Ross steering box and not the aluminum Sheppard (real POS that would sieze up). They had the last efficient WS wiper/washer system IH had 'cause they was top-hung. Rugged trucks, the last one I drove had been wrecked 3 times before I got it and was still going strong.

Minuses? They're Internationals.:biggrin_2559: Needed 2 blower motors in the heater/cool system; only 1 of which ever worked. If you replaced 1 the other would quit and no IH dealer ever had whichever one was out.:biggrin_255:

i remember the first truck i drove as a solo back in the day at schneider was an international cabover...not sure of the year...80 something. It was a canadian truck and had 1.2 million kilometers on it....also had the air powered wiper blades....never could get used to those....didn't even have an air ride seat....I remember smacking the roof HARD with my head the first time I crossed into Arkansas....ah memories.....:biggrin_2556:

What memories??? That was just a minute ago. You've been unconcious ever since and everything you think you remember is an unconcious dream. You're still in that schneider truck and you're rolling out of control.

Wake up Quick. You're gonna CRASH!!!!!!!!:biggrin_2555::biggrin_25521::biggrin_2556::biggrin_25523:

Ok, I've been offered a 1982 Mack Cruiseliner cabover. I have a very poor picture of it thats not even worth posting here, but from what i see theres no body rust.... Owner wants $2500.

Southernpride says they should give it to me for free.

    Another bad buy? Hmm..

I wonder why no one offers me a KW cabover...

Because detroit never made a 6v71. Its either a 6.71 inline,(238hp screamin detroit) or a 6v 92, and the pics show its definately a v motor. My guess is 6v92 # 330 hp but because you can't see the whole length of the motor it could be an 8v92 (435hp) because they look the same, just longer, But it is not an 8v71 (or 318hp)
I had a 73 4070 daycab single axle mobile home toter with a 80 yr model 6v92 (they called them fuel squeezers but they may get 4 to 5 mpg) with a rto 910. I drove it for 3 yrs all over Tx, Ark, Ok, La area in the early 90s and overhauled it myself in my yard for about $600. then sold it.

Sorry to bust yer bubble Lngtaltxn, but DD certainly DID make a 6v71. As a matter of FACT they made (I'm reading from 22nd edition Motors Truck Repair Manual here) a 6v53 series and two versions of the 6v71. Mostly they wound up for industrial uses; God knows who'd put one in a truck..... but hey, there's no accounting for people.:biggrin_2559:

Now if you really wanna put a smile on the "old truckers"; find you a Binder, FL or KW COE with a 12v71 (851 cuin x 425hp), put straight pipes onnit and buy a gross of earplugs. Suckers will knock birds outa the sky at 2300rpm and barbecue em with the flame off the stacks.:biggrin_2559:

BTW, I drove one of those Binder Round Cabs for 2 years with a 318 and 13 OD. It had been wrecked and rebuilt 3 times before I got it. Ran like a champ pulling 110,000 gvw and never had an engine issue other than breaking the shaft that ran the supercharger once. We fixed that on the roadside with a piece we got from a nearby farmer (try doing that with yer electronic wonders) who also fed us and came out to help. Think he charged us $10 for the shaft.:biggrin_25525: 318's were like small block Chevvys; everybody had a couple around someplace.:biggrin_2559:

From there I "stepped up" to a Western Star COE with a 400 Cummins. Thot I'd died and gone to Heaven.:biggrin_2559: Dayaaamm, I could even hear the 8-track (remember those?). 80mph with Johnny Cash and Red Sovine.... yeehawww!!!:biggrin_2559:
