I just use it in the mud in mines.

If I’m stuck I’ll throw it on here and there or maybe taking off from a light in the snow.

I don’t see the point of it once you’re rolling good and in the clear.

    Same reason I don’t use my 4wd at 50 mph. If I can go 50 I don’t need 4wd.

Maybe contact your safety department and see if they have an opinion? I'm sure there's some reason not to have it on all the time that they or your service department could tell you. Just share with the class what you find out.

I’ve only used it off-road myself, but we only run down south and I can’t fathom some of the snow and ice up north and out west.

Power dividers are very misunderstood. You can actually cause more damage running unlocked and constantly spinning a wheel than staying locked in all the time. They are stronger locked in than unlocked, too, as you remove the spiders from the power path.

The way I've run them for years (and sometimes for hundreds of miles at a time) is that if I can break loose the drives easily, I'll kick in the divider. And while it's not applicable to most of the guys in fleet trucks, as they don't have the gauges, if you see the temp on the front diff climbing a bit, you likely should have the lock disengaged, as that's a sign that you've got a slight bind between the axles. Conditions that require the lock are normally allowing enough wheel slip that the bind isn't there.

Joetro, Oxbow, Lepton1 and 7 others Thank this.
