Long vs short haul

    I'm not sure of your implication but I might suggest the idea is to conserve On Duty time [so as to conserve 70 hour time]. If it helps to work towards an 8/2 split sleeper then all the better.

    You can log 8 straight hours in the sleeper for a split sleeper. Then you get anything you had on your 11 and 14 before you started your sleeper.

    The industry is loaded with accountants who do nothing but consider these variables and figure out the financial consequences. And then management tries to recover the costs in the rates, if they can, according to market conditions.
    It happened in Roman times when Julius had to stop his chariot at 2 different booths in the market to drop off his olives, and ever since.

    I remember that first trip with my authority... LOL! Fun times! We shall see what happens, I will give it a few months on the eLog and see what happens. I'm in a good spot financially, truck is paid for, house is paid for, no credit cards, one Chevy Silverado lease payment and the cell phone. If I have to, I will turn it back on, but quite honestly, I really like where I am and the company I work with. I also love the short miles, easier to take care of the truck, less wear and tear, and the freight is normally a few hundred pounds in a 53' dry van that they take care of.

    If you are running out of your 11 (or your 70) then sleeper at the dock will help. If you are running out of your 14, then it won't. So it depends on exactly what situation you're trying to resolve, which is unclear since you didn't specify. But the next guy who reads this might be trying to solve a different problem than you are, so I'm not really worried about it either way.

    Money is the problem.

    Then again it should not even be a thought other than a certain amount of fuel necessary to sleep the driver nice and comfortable even in the worst of weather or the barest of docks.

    When I am in a dock, it's time to work. Its very difficult to enter a mindset that it's time to unload and go to sleep as in relax and sleep. Sleep is hard to come by when it's time to work now. Does that even make sense of this babble I am writing??
