Has anyone been to Longways Truckstop on Route 342 in Watertown, NY lately? I used to deliver in Watertown years ago and stayed here many times and enjoyed the restaurant and the area. Just curious if it is still there.

No, the fuel store and Cat scale is no longer in operation, like within the last few months. They dug up all the tanks and there's about 4 huge piles of dirt in the lot, with very little room to park. (as of about a week ago when I was through there) The cafe is still open, though and there is room to park under the old fuel canopy (they refilled most of what they dug out with new dirt. Not sure if anyone is going to pay to haul off the old dirt .. probably several thousand yards of dirt).
The waitress said they gave the workers about 12 hour notice of the closing. The state must have came in and made them close or install all new tanks and plumbing, they told the state they could have it so it seems. She also did not indicate the restaurant had any plans of closing in the foreseeable future.Last edited: Jan 22, 2017

The dirt is probably contaminated with diesel and will require specialized disposal. Big bucks for whoever gets stuck with removing. If the owners file bankruptcy, then the county tax payers will get stuck with the bill.

That's a shame. It used to be a decent little stop when passing through Watertown.

Back when I first started driving I had runs to Montreal two weeks in a row and used a place in Watertown as my stop for the night. The diner had a really good steak sandwich. Don't remember the name though.
