+1 on the Jack London. Wonderful and criminally underrated author. I started reading his short stories in junior high, and had to keep a dictionary right at hand to look up words, but I learned a lot and had fun doing it, too.
"The Sun Dog Trail" is one of my Klondike faves....

But the fact that you did 2 years @ 1 job and have a clean record will be an immense help. Seriously.
About truck driving jobs- You can get a CDL for use in remote, off-highway communities without any driving test at all. I already posted about it:
How to get a CDL with NO driving/road test!
Also understand Alaska makes you retake the written tests even for a class C license. That's just how it is. And no, it is not easy to get your first issuance of any Alaska driver's license.
On the other hand, there are jobs a plenty in Alaska. You can make a lot of money real fast in Alaska, you just gotta know where the jobs are and have a great work ethic.
In 2008 I was hired on the spot to drive a dump truck since I had a CDL. No road test, no background checks, no drug test. Nothing at all. Dude said: "Let me see your CDL... OK this is the real deal from the 48, you actually passed a driving test" Threw me a set of keys, said pay was 18 an hour, paycheck is on Friday, paperwork can be done in a day or two, go drop my bags off in company housing, grab the dump truck and go get loaded. One more question he had: "Ever run a front end loader? No? OK, you'll figure it out when you get to the pit" And that was that.
People that never been to Alaska love to talk like they know it all. If you wanna work for real then Alaska has a job since yesterday waiting for you.
Best of luck!Last edited: Feb 18, 2018

That's because the Mormon religion is just so interesting.

Some of them believe that in the "last days," treasure will descend upon the locals in Provo, while the rest of the world suffers for being the barbarous miscreants they are. Those other 6 billion wayward scoundrels rejected the sage teachings of Joseph Smith. The day shall come -- the horn of Moroni shall sound off -- faithful brethren shall receive bountiful riches, while the bewildered millions endure famine.... or whatever.
It makes for entertaining reading, at least.
