Prime Inc pays a guaranteed $700.00 a week. It's the only company I have found so far that will do that. Most others seem to average about 550 a week. Now I don't know for sure but I believe you have to suffer the first weeks without a paycheck. They might give you some advances but I'd stay away from those. In addition there is no telling how much you'll make after training. I'm sure some weeks will be more and I'm betting others will be less.
If I were in your shoes I wouldn't jump in just yet. Wait, save some up some cash reserves first. You got a family to think about. I would make sure I have at least 2 months worth of utilities paid up, not counting a few hundred I would want to have in my pocket. I'm not a trucker but I've done tons of reading and lot of these guys are really struggling right out of the gate. So just go into it as prepared as possible. You might get lucky enough to find a course near you that does either weekends or nights. That way you can continue making a paycheck at your regular job until your ready to jump ship.
Looking at getting in to it.

Might be feeling lucky due to illness with the company truck driver where I'm at now. Depending on how serious his issue is, the position may open and I may be able to get my foot in the door. Will keep it updated.
Chinatown Thanks this. -

i was too but declined upon further investigation. she has not quit calling me since-Chinatown Thanks this. -
I would have I think really liked to do OTR, but it didn't happen and that's okay. Seriously Dumdriver's right just roll over to Coke, Pepsi, Budweiser, Coors, Miller, wine distributors and see what you can get. Beer companies like to hire new guys they do it all the time. I went straight from school to a beer distributor and it's been something...

However you have to start somewhere, seriously if you go to a beer company you'll get good experience for the most part you'll learn a lot about making deliveries and you'll learn some tricks. You'll get to be home on the weekends. -

Okay actually found a night school about an hour away. Monday-Friday 6-10pm. Would work out perfect. Another question is are there any schools that you pre-commit and they send you to a school of your choice on their dime? Not sure how well getting a student loan would work out. The school is Premier.

Yea the beer co i work for does too..im one of 3 class drivers i have trained 2 guys w permits

I'm not sure who the beer distributor is around me to be honest. I know of a couple of places but I believe they are a Class B job that no one really ever leaves. Hard to get your foot in the door.

That's only $17/hr for a 40 hour job. He's probably only bringing home about $575 a week. If you're not taking home more than that driving a truck, you really suck at your job.
-
575 would be nice. More like low 4's. Insurance and taxes are killer. Plus all the little nitpicky stuff we pay for.
