Thank you DDlighttruck....
The biggest company I am considering right now is Magnum. Seriously...
Otherwise, still, at the top of my list is a small local oil company. Hauling gasoline. Looks very promising.
I'm being convinced more and more on running out of town is ok for me. With the oil company. They have a bunch of new openings. Running overnights. Home every other night.
Also have input from the teacher in the driving school I'm going to attend. Positive on my chances with the small oil company. The oil company checks with him for a reference.
Going to take an SAT test with the state employment people tomorrow. The pre test I took. They freaked. I scored very high. Perfect on reading comprehension. They were impressed at someone doing that good, when the person hasn't been taking tests in a long time.
I'm kinda thinking the oil company needs smarter people. Many can't do that job. There is too much to it, mentally.
I've been in touch with everybody. Getting the impression the oil company needs me. -
Leads me to a question.
I have been driving a straight truck for 7 years here. Dealing with ice. I know, with a straight truck, not enough of the weight is on the steering wheels. Makes it tough on ice.
What I gather. Tractor Trailers do much better on ice than a straight truck. Because of the weigh/steering wheels problem.
I'm not suggesting Tractor Trailers have no problem on ice. Am I correct in my thinking? Looks like I'll find out for myself.
I know, it's bad at anywhere around 32 degrees out. Get clear ice. Ice with water. It's not good.
Wyoming doesn't plow their roads! -
I just came from the State Job Office. I took that adult form of the SAT test. I scored in the top 0.5% of everyone who has taken that test.

I've been looking at a third very strong candidate for employment; Old Dominion.
I have an Old Dominion terminal within one mile of my house. Their website has a Line Haul position open at that terminal.
An old High School buddy of mine, was the first to suggest this. He lives in Arizona. He hauled gasoline for many years. He tries to steer me away from hauling fuel. He seriously thinks that Old Dominion is a better job than any gasoline hauling. Your thoughts?
I've looked at info on Old Dominion. Seen a couple threads on them. Looks very good?
Also...with their hiring process speed. Might work out very well to apply this week with them.
I'd be happy to attend both my Trucking School and theirs. Even before hire. I have time. I'd go.
BTW: Received my Certificate from ACT WorkKeys NCRC. Adult work version of the SAT. I have my "Platinum" certification. Hope this helps me. Like I said. I'm in the top 1/2 of 1 percent of people who have taken this in this country since it started in 08.
EDIT: Kind of a dumb question. Old Dominion says this job could take me away from home for long periods. If so... does anyone know... can I take my pet with me? -
I work for a small family owned company out if Spearfish. We do stepdeck and quite a bit of hauling tanks to oil fields in ND and Wyoming. Regional and guaranteed Sundays off.I am also off Saturdays 95% of the time. I live in Sturgis. PM me if you want more info.
WesternPlains Thanks this. -
I got my doubles/triples. They billed me for license renewal also. Said when I come in with my A test passed. They will just do it. No pay at that time. They wouldn't put my doubles/triples on my B license. But it's there, waiting for me. .... Then she gets this big smile and says: Only thing you still got to get is: School Bus. Hehe...
Can anyone help me with a list of companies to apply to that....well... I only need the applications for unemployment. Otherwise I have a few very interesting ones. I might even have a job next week, with a delayed starting date until Jan 2nd. I don't know what unemployment would do with that... Let me ride without job checks until then? I don't know? I am confident the job is rather special. -
Please excuse my request. That was kind of dumb. I can just find a list of companies, and start churning out applications.
I did want to say. I applied with Old Dominion. This is for a definite Line Haul position that is based one mile from my home. At the end. They said a Recruiter will be contacting me within 48 hours. Interesting...
Got a few good possibilities. -
I'm surprised. Got a response from Trimac. They actually comprehended my information. Intelligent recruiter.
They turned me down. That's ok. There must be a reason why they are always advertising for drivers here. That can't be good.tman78 Thanks this. -
Baltimore has a habit of seeing a tanker hit one of two specific places, Under the I-695/83? north side interchange once or twice a year burning out a pillar or a bridge. And at 140 where it tops off the 795 into several homes once.
With YOU in wyoming... esh... Gasoline seems ok to me. I celebrate your restoration from a enemy to your life. But wyoming is NOT maryland. You have and should have more room to work with in any weather. (Fort Bridger Hill westbound has my name on it though, it gets awful dicey on ice with those 4x4's and trailers spinning out across the highway leaving me to do something when I see them over the top coming down.... ugh.)
You would be situated with fuel I imagine. You spoke that one company is unstable. How so? It might be something enough to keep you away or nothing at all?
