You get what you pay for. And if you have thousands of authority owners lined up to sign you on, why are you on a website asking?

There is nothing wrong with leasing onto a company btw. You just act like it’s so meaningless and easy.

the going rate isn’t 10%, it is 20% for good carriers to lease to.

what you are forgetting is this little problem, the carrier carries most of the liability - from cargo claims to litigation, no matter what. You as a driver/owner can screw their ratings up, trigger a safety audit or cause heavy fines to be applied to a violation. All of this costs money to rectify or mitigate.

Running an authority right takes an effort, having a truck turn say $140k in gross revenue, at 10% doesn’t pay for the labor to do the paper work.

My question is why give 10% and book your own loads and all that when you could give 20% and just lease on and have direct customers and dedicated dispatch and a trailer to pull since you mentioned in another thread you can’t buy a trailer and can’t find any rentals?

Nothing wrong with leading on if that is what you want to do. I might do it myself. But you are no longer an O/O. You are an employee that owns a truck.

When I first started thinking on it about 5 years ago it was 9k.
I was going to get a new 2021 truck. Asked about insurance on it and new authority and was told 25-30k. Use others authority, 11k.
    I pay 11 on my 2017 Pete.
But authority would be a diaster for me, I am the world's worst paperwork person. I could never do the office work. I can't do brain surgery either do I don't do it.

    Finding them ?
You can't find if you do not look.
Got one now and I know plenty locals that would do it but I want the right one.
The one I have now simply does not want to deal with more than one broker. I was dedicated before and now am not. That is where this went sour.
But, I am thinking of leasing on. There are a couple good places I know of. I just like being my own boss but I don't mind lease if they can get me home when I need home.

You can lease your truck on to many companies for 25% off the top , run their freight. Your freight, load board freight. Turn the paperwork in and get paid. A few will take 10% off the top, 1 just started, their # s, self dispatch.

People get too hung up on the percentage thing. Whether 90% or 65% or anything in between. Percentage of how much determines revenue. There are a lot of people at Landstar, Mercer, Schneider etc at or near 65% that are making more money than some getting 90% elsewhere.
