I think the problem is all these companies want a letter from insurance company at the time of applying . before they even call you , because of all the new to canada drivers trying to bs their way into a driving job . the o/o either has to risk asking for a insurance letter or like me when i see that requirement move on to other jobs
Looking for a change

Employer would have to be a low life POS not to give you a glowing letter of reference… -
Have you tried contacting the insurance company directly and ask for the letter?

Unfortunately you’re right ,times have certainly changed and there’s a 100 guys fresh off a plane ready to work for peanuts . No loyalty between companies or drivers , this year i’ve seen a couple drivers get hired on to run to prescott and back in a daycab getting paid mileage and give no notice and quit. The company only pays like .44c a mile and only make like $215 gross a night but they took the job . I feel there was a little more respect when i started and that was only in 2008 . Crazy how down hill trucking has gone in 17 yearsLast edited: Jun 18, 2025

it’s really slow right now and i work for a mega . I was off this wednesday and last thursday because of no work and i’m off next week for vacation lol . I would be fine with days off but you lose a days pay every time and it hurts come pay day.I’m pretty much feed up where i work with all the no work days which has steadily increased over my 13 years here and we’ve lost a ton of work with nothing to really replace it . The problem is i don’t get call backs , it’s the same crappy companies always hiring or i don’t have experience in that industry. Ie no tanker , roll off experience and so on and that’s why i don’t get call backs . it sucks out there right now and my 17 years of driving experience doesn’t count for anything these days it seemsLast edited: Jun 26, 2025

Why don't you do driver training? Would you go long haul?

with no response, from roll off and tractor trailer jobs and i don’t get a call back. what i find funny is they had a article on trucknews a few months ago saying they can’t find drivers and one way of getting them is going to trucking schools talking about the benefits of working for GFL because they can get your foot in the door of the trucking industry having no experience. From what i hear GFL, WM wasteco suck but it’s almost impossible to get hired on for roll off or front load with no experience even if you have 17 years semi truck experience like me . i’m tired of the ups and downs of general freight and the no work phone calls every week and garbage driver’s always work and most make $30 plus a hr doing roll off or front load . i just can’t get anyone to give me chance everyone wants experience in those fieldsCanadianhauler21 Thanks this.
