what exactly is a non compete contract?

Thanks. I’ll give em a call soon as I get my physical taken care of Tuesday afternoon.

It was revoked then. I’ve since gotten my license back and have had a clean record with no wrecks or anything.

All these companies with cdl school provide transportation to get to the school, plus meals and lodging.

There are plenty of options for company sponsored training. Do your research and pick one. Do not sweat the contract part. Usually a year to cover your training costs. THERE IS NO FREE RIDE. You should stay with for first company for at least one year anyways. Drop and Hook and no touch are a completely different animal than Flat Bed. You will be very hands on with flat Bed. Good luck!

Most companies that do "free" training have you sign a contact agreeing to work for them for a specified amount of time. One year would be common. If you leave before this, you owe them a set dollar figure for the cost of your training. They will come after you to collect this.
Now, there are a few companies now that insert a non compete clause into that contract that forbids you from driving for anyone else before that contract is over. CRST, I think, started this. If you leave early, they will contact any company that hires you, or even does a pre-employment inquiry on you, informing them of the non-compete clause, and will threaten legal action. Many companies, when confronted with this will take the easy way out and not employ you.

Also, if you are paying for the physical, I'd hold off on getting it. Most companies that train you, will likely have you take a new one anyway. Even if they wouldn't require you to take a new one, they would pay for you to go get one themselves, no sense in you spending the money for something you don't need to.

Also don't waste your money on the dot physical. Most companies won't take it and require you to get it done with their doctor.
