I have recently obtained my CDL through a great training program and I am having a lot of trouble finding a company that takes on new drivers, because of my criminal background..I have a conspiracy to traffic 14 grams or more of oxycodone. I was arrested for the charge in 2012 . Does anyone know how long most trucking companies go back with their criminal background checks ? Should I just not mention it and hope for the best? Any advice would be greatly appreciated..
Looking for a little advice.

Most trucking companies with ask something like, "Have you had a felony within the last 5 yrs. or 10 years, etc."
OLDSKOOLERnWV, Wargames and Mitchstock Thank this. -
Is that your only criminal charge since then?
Any traffic accidents, or citations...since then?
When did you get your CDL?
What CDL endorsements do you have (if any)?
Does your CDL have an auto restriction on it?

I have 1 other assault charges from 2012 as well but when these companies hear trafficking they deny me on the spot ..
I just got my CDL last week
T and N endorsements
No restrictionsChinatown Thanks this. -
They just ask me if I have ever been convicted of a felony during recruiting phone call .. it's a conspiracy to traffic and as soon as they hear the word trafficking they shut me down .. Werner , Melton , TMC , knight ,Stevens and a couple more mega carriers have shot me down in the past 3 days -

Note also -- that the overall CDL freight world is pretty much in the commode right now.
Thus -- many companies that would normally hire brand new CDL holders have (of late) tightened their hiring requirements -- and now require previous driving experience (usually at least 3 months worth).
Thus -- even without a criminal history -- you are "behind the 8 ball"...as they say.
There are carriers out there who likely will consider you.
With that said, here are some suggestions:
- Whatever CDL endorsements you don't have -- go back, & try to get them (except passenger). Not sure if your particular conviction will keep you from hazmat -- inquire around about that.
- Don't call carriers first -- instead, submit a complete application on-line -- then follow-up about a week or more later, to check on your app's status. ONLY FURNISH THE INFO THAT IS SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR ON THE APP -- NOTHING MORE.
Given all the above -- try Western Express -- they are a well-known "2nd chance" carrier:

I'd say I'm tired of trucking schools taking money from people who have no hope of getting a job. This is wrong.
Wargames, Numb, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 8 others Thank this.
