That's right, be prepared when that good paying job $60K - $75K jobs becomes available, and those jobs are there, if you have the endorsements. When those companies need a driver, they aren't going to wait 2 months while you try to get the endorsements. I had tanker endorsement several years while pulling a reefer, then one day a premium job was in the paper & I jumped on it. Gave me an immediate $15K annual pay raise hauling acid 48 states.

Seriously? You've got your panties in a bunch over a hundred bucks?

    Tanker - $2.50
    Doubles & Triples - $2.50
    Hazmat - $2.50 + $86.50 TSA fee

A whopping $94. Um, okay - I guess I wasted $94 trying to make myself more marketable. Sorry I offended you.

Give me a break...I got my Hazmat in about 30 minutes and also made a perfect score on the test (the first ever at that particular drivers license bureau) and all without studying for it. However, I use to teach Hazmat courses in a previous career that I'm now retired from. In any event, getting an endorsement is a matter of studying for a test for a couple of hours at most and hardly a 2-month affair. Moreover, upon being hired most companies will gladly reimburse you the cost for the testing. I was. It's a complete and utter waste of time and money to acquire something you will probably never ever need or use. Not to mention, that unless you use it you lose it and most personnel departments understand this. It doesn't mean you are better qualified than another candidate without it.

In any event, I doubt having a tanker endorsement had anything to do whatsoever with you getting a job. Indeed, having an endorsement is like having a CDL, it doesn't make you qualified, but it is still nevertheless the minimum requirement. Too bad, had you got your endorsement as a condition of employment like most people, you would most likely have been reimbursed for your expenses and your recently acquired new knowledge wouldn't be so stale in your mind. Oh well.

Critters , when a driver with a whole 3 years of time can come in and straighten us all out ...man aren't we the lucky ones...I've been reading this guys posts all day and have yet to see a single thing positive that he has posted...but I forgot he knows it all so that makes it OK....To the OP , get every single endorsement you can pal....Chinatown was correct..there may come a time when a really good opportunity comes your way ...you'll already have a step in the right direction.

Tony your right we have forgotten more then he already knows, kinda goes back to another thread on here about being prepared and why us " old timers " seem to not want to help new driver's.if he only realized that in our time if you didnt have what it took to do the job you didnt get the job. funny when you really think back tho about who knows what we didnt have CDL back then we grand fathered in, because of drivers like that who really didnt know as much as they thought and in reality it cost us.

You know the only thing wrong with that statement critters....the only thing wrong with it is ...I wish I had said it 1st....No way in the world you can buy what you and I and LOTS of other hands on here have...I'll admit that I'm sort of old-fashioned in some of my thinking..and I'm aware that technologies move forward, sometimes for the better sometimes not...but one thing is for certain I didn't get the 3 million + safe miles behind me for being unable to listen to those that were trying to teach me things and skills I would NEED to reach that goal....too bad some folks refuse to recognize that when we try and give advice based on decades of experience..we are really trying to help.....sorry for the rant...:salute:
