I know when I took my test in GA, the computer randomized what kind of pretrip you got and you had 3 options. One option was entire truck and trailer which included under the hood. One option was from the driver's door to the middle of the trailer, I believe. The other option was just the trailer. All of them included flares, in-cab, and Fire Extinguisher. I don't know about any other states.

I'm sorry but some of you need to read the regulations. How can you be sure that the steering mechanism is in good working order if you do not inspect the steering gear box and the pitman arm just for example? The answer is you can't unless you look at it regardless of what state you're in. If you came to my company for a road test and was asked to do a pre-trip and didn't look under the hood the whole hiring process would end right there. There's just too many components to look at and it only takes a second or two.

Ya, the IL state examiner asked me if I saw three "hoses" running from the cab to the trailer!?
The answer he wanted was, YES!
