I just retired from the military and looking at getting into trucking. I drove a little while during my service when I was a fueler. A little flatbed and mostly tanker since the job was refueling everything in the Army. I am currently in CDL school with a couple of weeks left. So far in all my research my two top companies I like and want to work for is TMC or Groendyke. I have alot of experience with fuel from the army so I have the knowledge and safety skills to do the HAZMAT stuff there. I like the physical aspects with the flatbed and can handle hard work and that drew me in to TMC. Money issues is where I am at now on deciding, due to my final military pay coming late. In the training/orientation plans with both companies they are paid training, but I am trying to see which is better financially to go with during training as well a how much I would make after training.
Groendyke jobs on INDEED job sites say they make 45-50K, one of the threads on here someone posted some info on what they make during training so it sounds pretty good. TMC is 400 each week of 2 week orientation and then 425 a week for the 5 weeks you are on the road with mentor. They also have the apprenteship program with the VA and I draw GI Bill money to assist and make extra on top of what they pay for up to 18 months. I am leaning mor toward them right now, but I still like the idea of doing tanker. I can do percentage of load with TMC, and I dont know even how Groendyke pays, mileage or percentage? And alot of stuff I read say tankers pay more, due to HazMat.
I would love to hear from someone who currently drives, or has driven for either one of these companies RECENTLY, like within the past year. I just want to make a good realistic choice, and make good money. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Looking for current info on Groendyke or TMC
