Being in southern Illinois, you're right smack dab in the middle of all of our freight lanes, so you could pick any division and have no issues getting home. Except for the past 2 weeks when I've been on long Canada runs, I probably spend 70% of my time in Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri. I never understand why so many people hate going to Canada. I love it up there, everyone is friendly and the weather is decent - except for in the winter, and even then winter driving up there is easier than in the south, because the temp never gets high enough for ice to melt and refreeze, so you don't see black ice up there. And they KNOW how bad winter can get, and are very good at preparing and keeping the roads safe.
I guess I'll throw my .02 in. You probably won't hear a Maverick say "go with TMC" or visa versa. You need to decide what is right for you all around. Make a pro/con list if that helps. Maverick trucks are mid-roof TMC's are not. I like the fact you have the whole inside of the truck to stand up in. I know there are more important things to look at but you also have to consider comfort of your "home". Do you want to crouch to get back to the sleeper? Even had a DOT man comment on the room in our truck as he was doing a "show and tell" to new DOT workers. That was fun LOL.
Our trucks really are nice. Really nice. APU/EPU's included. Very comfortable. (...and Faster too LOL)
I drove with maverick for a year. Not a bad company to start off career. Very picky on who they hire. You will love it at first. After that it all depends on your fleet mongrel. If u get a good one you'll continue to love it. If you Don't then be prepared to fight to get home. Can't say anything bad exactly other than fighting to get home. That's why I left. Its like any other company some will say good some will say bad.
Yeah,i heard they were a good company to start with.Im hoping they could be something long term for me. I should found out today when my orientation date will be. Hopefully either the 9th or 16th.
NOt to mention we have apu's! Just like being in a hotel room with heat and cool! Black truck, no ac, limited idel time....no thank you!
