1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. I just took a road test (passed) today and filled out a application. Was wondering how many days a week you typically work, and how many hours you are out for in a day. Do you normally just work 40 hours, or is OT usually availble??

Right now I work for Sygma, and the job just beats the crap out of you!!

They have what you call an flex board ,one day you be doing P@D,next day or night your on linehaul and yes there linehaul drivers work the dock.It takes 5 years to get to the top rate, good money.I hear it takes about year or so to get your own bid run.I also hear they do have turn over for new guys becasue of this flex board.I used to work for USfoods before moveing on to Fedex,so I know what your talking about.

KILROY I live in Grafton and have been looking at SYGMA and Conway. I am 58 and don't think I want to unload a trailer of frozen food by hand. Dis yopu go to Conway in Shrewsbury. What was the road test like. There ad says 18.38 to start is this true? Are they having you drive or work the dock? Line haul or P&D. I have no expierence. Do you know if this matters. No where does there ad mention expierence. Did you take the road test before application?

Well I can tell you Sygma hired me as a Driver Helper/Driver with almost no experience other then school and 1 week with Swift. I got a lot of driving time with Sygma and learned how to take these trucks into places barly big enough for a car, never mind a tractor trailer.....LOL! I also got driving experience in big cities like Boston, Providence and NYC.
So the downside is you have to move freight, and a lot of it using only a 2-wheeler, up and down a ramp. You do this all at night, and still have to drive the truck to get to the next stop. Im 40 myself, and it does beat you up, I should of been doing this in my 20's!!

Conway had me take a road test which consisted of a quick pre-trip, drop and hook, straight backing, backing the trailer into a open slot, performing a figure 8 in the lot, and a road test. The shifting is a straight 7 speed, I'm used to a 10 speed, so its a bit different. All said I did very good, but about a year ago I took a road test before Sygma and failed. After the road test being passed, you fill out the application.
As far as the work goes its P&D, Line-haul and dock work. The pay is 18.38 a hour and the location was Shrewsbury.
If you feel your in shape and capable of moving a lot of freight, then also consider Sygma. In one year there I probably gained 5 years of experience...LOL!! They pay very well also, like $1000 a week (driver helper/driver) plus bonuses and such.
    Good luck.
