and trust me I am taking ALL your advice form everyone. its how I apply it in making a decision. I appreciate all input you guys have. I applied to Millis just now hopefully something will come out of it.. Its all kinda new to me in this field. I have been a Boss for a major Construction Company for many years . laid off and can't find work sucks..
You mean get a temporary job with a BFI ? Why do you think they are always hiring ? It's because newbies are leaving one way or another after a few months or less . Check the stats and show me a carrier that has increased their fleet size in the last year . Explain the turnover rate of over 80% for OTR carriers . Only a fool would pay thousands to get a job for a carrier paying the same wages they paid 30 years ago .
I don't honestly expect the company i choose to go to to fulfill every promise . Thats life ya get screwed . been there done that. I am looking for a decent company that is fair pays decent and keeps me busy. thats about it. after the required commitment its a toss of stay if they are a good company .. or look into other possibilities if neccessary. The training is most likely going to be sponsored. so Its a toss for the best program and company at this point.
you guys are out there and see and hear who does what...Hell i hear it when i drive my Pickup and listen to the CB .. about JB hunt, Sneider, and the others . But you hear the stuff i don't have available to me .. thats why I'm asking. I turned England and Pam down because of the stuff I read on here and other forums. Stephens is a good one and Millis thanks to this post is another option.
millis and w/s are not BFI's....both are medium sized companies that put you in a truck and let you do your thing...no hand holding, no micro-management, no fleece deals...no BS! American Trucker
And their turnover rates are what ? And why ? W/S has less than 1,000 trucks and it seems newbies here are going there every week . Millis lost the Budweiser account . Do they even need drivers ?
W/s hires 5-10 drivers a week, most quit because either they are not cut out for trucking or they cant handle the ltl work. I donno about millis i still see them pulling bud trailers American Trucker
millis had some requirements i couldn't meet yet ..oh well.......... looks more like a prime.... canadite for a while until i get my time in. but thanks hope to see ya out there one day
I guess a person could use a trucking company to obtain their CDL. Some of the websites I have researched require students to be obligated to the company for a period of time after successfully completing their training. I utilized the local community college for my training. I worked in the daytime and school at night. My veterans benefits paid for all but a hundred dollars of the $3,995. fee. For those seeking to get their CDL training at the local community college I would suggest taking advantage of the Federal Pell Grant Program. The grant provides you with $ 5,350. for educational cost at community colleges, colleges and universities and many trade and technical schools. One of the guys in my class used it to pay for his CDL training. Log onto your states Department of Employment Services web site for more info or talk to somebody at your local employment facility. Or call 1-800-4-fed-aid Its easy, fast and best of all FREE. Good Luck
