AT if you are saying Conway then it should be worth a look too.

Nice Crete does have a terminal in Spartanburg, SC, Lenoir City, TN, and Marietta, GA. That does make for a nice circle right around me.

Yeah pretty much. I have done a lot of reading on this website and it has made me very aware of what kind of situations not to get yourself into. Being a slave to a company is one of them.

I am going down the trucking road for many reasons but being very cautious about any decisions I make. This seems to be a cut throat business now days.

Having been through a school (many years ago) and through the Millis program, bottom line is they are all "mills" no matter how they sugar coat it or how many state endorsements they tell they have. That's their sole purpose, to put people through training for driving a truck. My thoughts are they cannot teach you to be a truck driver. They can give you the basic skills to operate a truck. That does not make you a truck driver. It goes way beyond the classroom or parking pad rolling around.

The only difference is how much you pay. Whether you go through training say with Millis or Sage, bottom line is you have a bill to pay. You pay out of your own pocket and you're not obligated to a company? I'm sure you're looking to get that money back and looked at it as an investment. I for one cannot afford to just fork over $5k for the sake of "lets see what its like".

I for one went with Millis because #1 I am not a job hopper and #2 researched intensely before I made the decision. I'm looking to be with Millis for quite a while and the $20 a week isn't going to break me. Up to this point I do not regret my decision and think I chose a fairly good company.

They arnt the best for many reasons but they do take care of there drivers and pay good + its makes for an easy transition to a local LTL job with Conway Freight.

Theres a few reasons i wouldnt work for them, there not big deals but i've dealt with some of these issues before and all together its not what I personally would sign up for:

Super Singles (some guys love them, ME i hate them)
Tag Axles (only one powered axle on the truck, NO diff lock!:biggrin_2554:
    No APU's (ovious reasons)
I know theres more but thats all i can think of off the top of my head lol. Other then that they are a good company, 99.999999% no toutch freight!:biggrin_25525:

You make some good points AT. Being out on the road, you need to have some comforts like the APU. I have read some on the super singles, but I dont know much one way or the other on what is better. That could be a good thing for me.

Bear I understand what you are saying too. I have read a lot of what you have posted too. I am not rich, but I have some money to do this. I have thought of doing this for 25 years. I want a job change, and to get out of what I have been doing for the last 15 years.

I am not or was not sure if Millis did their training in Georgia or up north. With the SAGE school (thru a community college) it is 1.5 hours from my house. Sunday thru Friday stay in a hotel, and then come home for the weekend.

I am not in this to get rich by any means, and I am taking a good cut in pay with the job change too. I am just looking to make enough money to make my house payment and to live.

I was signed up to go to a technical school and it was paid for through a hope grant so no money owed back. I was investing my time in the training so yes looking to get it back. I like to have a safety net so if something happened where trucking did not work out I could walk away and not owe anyone anything.

I am not knocking anyone for their decision to go a different route so if I came off that way I do apologize.

I didn't mean that to sound crude or rude if it came across like that. Nor am I knocking anybody for whatever path they travel. When I went through school the first time it was paid for by the state, so I did not owe any monies back. That is a bonus if you're in that situation. I was just saying $5k is a lot of money. No matter who you choose there are no guarantees. Ok I'll shut up now, lol.

I was afraid I sounded that way Bear. I know there is no guarantees in life all too well. I guess my problem is my insecurity and lack of self confidence so I always feel the need for a safety net. Not everyone is like that, and be thankful if you aren't. It is an aggravating personality querk :biggrin_25510:
