There's a mix of flatbed, dry van, refrigerated. Depends on what you're interested in.

Pick a company THEN pick how/where to go to school. Some companies have their own school or they only hire newbies from certain schools. Every CDL school will find someone to loan you money. Half of trucking companies pay Tuition Reimbursement along with your wages. Some only pay TR if you have a school loan. It's possible to start trucking without being away from home for weeks. Some newbies start as a local driver, which in the past was only available after you had a couple of years going OTR, Over The Road. Decide what kind of trucking, where to work, how to get the license (CDL) or which school to attend.

Most states have a WOIA or WIA grant program that can pay for CDL school if you are underemployed or unemployed. Grants do not require repayment. They are administered through your state unemployment office.

    Give him some names.
The way I look at it is when you hit the road, you're a one truck operation. Doesn't matter how many trucks the company owns, you're only driving one of them. A driver can be just as successful with a large company as with a medium or small one. The worst driving experience I ever had was with a mom & pop outfit. Crappy, if any, benefits for one thing.
Even small companies must follow the same regulations as the large ones, such as Elogs.
The only benefit to Elogs is it leveled the playing field to some degree.
