Need some info first. What are you looking to drive? Are you going to be a o/o or drive for a fleet owner? Can you stay out on the road for at least 3 weeks at a time?

I appreciate the feedback guys. I am actually trying to find out for an older friend of mine that is looking to get into the business. Being out for three weeks at a time probably nips that one in the bud though. Any idea of the start up costs as in all paperwork and licensing? I think he just wants to pull a 1 ton dually and a flatbed gooseneck.

Seeing more and more of them without signs. DOT is blind to them.

I figure that the DOT and state police are just plain lazy. I can spot them out of the corner of my eye. I see the Indiana State Officer sit behind them and even pass them.

The other states, only look at them if they are dumb enough to cross a scale.

After all, no signs, private hauler.

    Hey Bigarmin88,

Actually, I have never seen Shipping Wars. I just do not find reality television shows entertaining. I understand what you are saying and can certainly agree; however, there are still individuals out here trying to earn a living and go about things in a professional and legitimate manner. With that being said, I know you are out of Florida but obviously you must be in the business. If you have any information as to start up, how to acquire freight, or just helping someone understand how the business works I would be greatly obliged. Thanks.

Well first of all any prior experience in trucking or logistics would help, its not cheap and I seen many people try and wine up burning at the end. There really no work for hot shot unless you either a member on uship or you haul cars, hauling cars is your best bet uship is just a joke cause you not going move anything less than $1.00 a mile if your lucky,I seen loads going for .60 cents per mile!:biggrin_25510:

Also you need to be legal like DOT and MC authority which cost money and you need proof of business licence and proper cargo and auto insurance etc.

My point is its an't easy!Yea I did it for a while make money but with the cost and ilegal transporters out there,I got out, when back to trucking.
