I did a lease with shnieder and after 1 year the truck got stolen and burnt to the ground! after the fire mashal checked in to some thing guess who stole it the owner not the leaser but the owner!
I also tryed it with burlington and when they went under guess what I lost another truck because burlington had not made a payment in 4 months yet they took my payment every week!
think about what your doing first.

let me give you some #'s to help you out!
lets say you run 2500 miles a week at 90 cents a mile thats $2250 a week
minus 1500 aweek in fuel minus 56 a week in ins. 100 a week for escrow
minus 250 a week for truck payment plus any mant. on the truck lets say
50 dallors for that and misc. stuff = 1900 so you bring home $350 minus taxes on 2250 that bring home around $150 a week do you still think it's worth it?

Especially in this market. And not that I would ever suggest to anyone to "lease" a truck through a company. Even if the economy was good and freight was plentiful.

Go find a good used truck, there are allot of them out there right now. And if you are smart and patient, you can pick up one hell of a truck for pennies on the dollar.

    hey waterloo....great advice.....

But its to hard for a driver to humble themselves and buy a cheap work truck and make profit....

Alot of drivers are stuck on stupid and wanting to show there big large car and impress....

It really is that way for 80% of drivers....

Cabovers are money makers.lol, lol they really are...

If someone takes a job for 90cpm and they have to pay for fuel, that's pretty stupid in my book.

Some trucks cost around 1 dollar per mile just for fuel costs alone.

If you offer me 90 cents, You are paying for fuel. All there is to it.

When I was a company driver, we lost our Ford contract, not our doing. Well, I figured it was time to break out on my own. The first trucks I went to look at were cabovers! I loved those things, for the sole fact they are money makers. But, everything I found was beat to snot.

I settled on a little white Volvo with a teeny tiny bed behind the seats. It had an M-11 Cummins and a 10 speed. But, it had all new rubber and brakes along with a complete mechanical history. I paid $17,000 cash for that truck. It is still running around out here, as I sold it to my neighbor. And it was nothing to get 8 mpg with that silly little under powered tractor.

And she was a money maker, paid for herself 100 fold +. Not the prettiest thing, but a real money maker. Ain't that why we do this?

People just dont get it....i tell you were trucking started to get bad....

When people started to want to buy into this "looking good" mentality....and not looking at trucks as a tool for profit....I can count endless drivers that fell into this looking cool and lost there azzzz, there truck, there homes etc etc..

i just picked up a 1995 fld 120 condo, total rebuilt100,000 MILES AGO with proof and papers 336 rears and 13 speed for a grand total of 7,000....thats it.....MONEY MAKER WITH A LITTLE COMFORT AND GREAT FUEL MILAGE NOT TO MENTION GREAT SHAPE,NO RUST....FLORIDA TRUCK...

I HAVE PREACHED FOR YEARS AND NO ONE LISTENS TO ME ON HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS IN TRUCKING AND HAVE FREEDOM AND MAKE A LIVING AT IT....I AM JUST AN OLD NY DUMMY LOL,LOL

As with all business moves there is always a gamble. If you can do this and not have a major breakdown till you build up a maintenance account then all is good. Another decent way to get a used truck is goggle select trucks, from freightshaker . They have some decent deals and a lot to choose from. I was looking at doing this and did not follow through. I think it is $900 down and you can get warranties from any freightshaker dealer. Some of the trucks are not priced bad at all. The payments are not bad either. I have talked to a few drivers that did this and one had a major breakdown and almost all of it was covered and it kept him from going under.
I found a company to put the truck on with before I stepped out. What had me worried was by the time I got the truck set up for flats, headache rack, chains, tarps etc I was afraid that my cash flow would be too low to cover me. So I got stupid and decided to try a lease thinking my revenue would kick in sooner. Insert boot here....:biggrin_2554: If I ever get the notion to try this again and buy a truck I want to put enough back to help cover my expenses for a month or two to help hold my head up.[IMG]

Good luck! Hell, you might find someone that will pay you 10 grand to take the truck off of their hands!

Allot of good buys out here right now, especially if you have CASH in HAND.
