"Extras???" What "extras???" Everything is clearly stated in the contract YOU signed. Or... didn't you READ it?
The shipper pays Prime for the freight I deliver... and my share is passed on to me. If I decide I don't want to work today, it costs me $150. If I decide I want to work today, it costs me $150 plus expenses. I just make sure there's a whopping big pile of money waiting for me. Not some piddly chump change.
So... you work 4 hours a day then. Sure.

Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.
-
So that means you have to have a boss to work for or it costs you $150 a day?
Do you have that kind of money to be your own boss?
Most do not--I know I do not and I doubt you do either so you need a boss to pay you to do a job with you truck--they pay you to do what THEY want done and do not pay you to do what you want to do.
As far as my hours I am paid 8 hrs daily--basically a salary of $960 a week GROSS and $743 a week NET whether my loads take 9 hrs or 1 hr to do I am paid 8 hrs.
Now usually it takes the whole 8 hrs but on occasion it take 4-5
As far as it being nothing to brag about--figure your expenses of eating, laundry, washing you tractor (mine is free),and them cherry masters and video games that are used to pass time waiting for a load (and there are waits a lot of times) and then all the time confined inside that truck my deal is better because I work less hours ( you do not work only 8 hrs a day) and I am home enjoying my wife and my hobbies nightly and every weekend and 12 holidays a year instead of being tied to a truck or truck stop 300-315 days a year. -
The fact is you don't. Have a clue. You are a wage slave. I am not.
-
So you don't need money coming in to pay for that truck?
I would be confident too if I had $150 a day to pay for a truck to sit around but I do not and the fact is that whether we own Walmart or work at McDonald's all of us are wage slaves because with no money coming in we don't live.FACT
some of us just go about it in different ways--i drive a truck locally,my dad went in the army and done his time and then by age 42 they started supporting him to stay home,my uncle gave up a $25 an hour job to buy a truck and is leased to a top 5 US carrier--he will tell anyone he don't make the money he did punching a time clock but enjoys driving and being in his truck 24 hrs daily for 25-28 days a month, some people want to farm for their living but we all work for somebody else.FACT
I have noticed that you won't dispute that you have to do what the shipper requires you to do to earn their money as do all truckers--I know I have to in order to fulfill my contract.
My boss never tells me what to do but the customers do the entire day or they do not pay and since I need to make money to enjoy owning my home and pay bills and then enjoy traveling the country on my vacation time and weekends I listen to their wishes.
Whether you own up to it or not is your issue but without somebody paying you to do what THEY want you to do you are bankrupt.
Do you also think every business owner has no boss?
WRONG--without letting the customer tell them what to do they too go broke as all this money does not just fall from the sky. -
Let me put my two cents worth in this conversation. Okay, I got nothing.
-
I really didn't much either driver except to offer advice to a guy that wondered about going to work for prime inc but I found out as was the case when I worked there that they have people working there that will support them to the end.
I met a flatbed driver that worked there and hadn't made money in 2 weeks but was still proud to work there--amazing
but I still say from my experience to avoid them.
I hear of lease drivers from other major carriers doing better--if they're being truthful -
What is it about self-employment that you don't understand? Of course we meet the needs of our shippers and receivers - that's because transportation is a service. And yeah, it does require money to operate a CMV - whether you own it or lease it really doesn't matter. I am self-employed - I do not have a boss or supervisor other than myself. I accept or reject loads on the basis of whether it makes economic sense for my business.
You're free to have your opinion of what Prime is or isn't, but understand that there are many of us who don't share in it. If you know what you're doing, one can do quite well at Prime. Make sure you pass that along too. -
What is it that you do not understand about a customer being your boss?
As I stated my boss does not tell me one thing to do--just work with customers to meet their expectations and please them and we both profit.
So in essence the customer is my boss (and yours) to say how they want it done--it is not for me or you to do it as we please but as the customer pleases or payment is not forthcoming.
So basically that means a boss and we all have them whether society today will acknowledge that or not.
If you do no believe me then do it as you please--ie do not deliver a load until Friday that the customer wants delivered by Tuesday and see how much money you make.
To the point of knowing what I am doing I will put my skills and know how up with anyone else's anytime as I am very confident in my ability to do a local or Otr job as well as anyone.
It has generally been my experience that ones who are quick to dismiss another's ability to do a job are
insecure people looking to feel better about themselves. -
Then you should be looking in the mirror.OpenRoadDreamer Thanks this.
-
You need a better comeback than that
i have not put down anyone's driving abilities--I am just 100% confident in mine is all
But I have noticed when people anywhere cannot refute what is said a comment like "you should look in the mirror" (I did this morning to be truthful) or "you don't have a clue" (I do to be truthful again) is coming next
