There’s no loophole in the regulations concerning true glider kits. Elkhorn Valley is doing something shady and nobody is sure exactly what all they’re doing yet. If you look at the interior pics of that red flattop it still has the def gauge in the dash. Lol. They’re getting new trucks, taking everything off, dropping in an old Cat, selling the truck for $215k and selling the X15 for about $30k.
I only know one guy in NE who bought one and it doesn’t have a salvage title. All they did was swap engines and send it out the door.Coffey, Dino soar, Speed_Drums and 4 others Thank this. -
I always heard about the black market. Never was totally sure where it was though lol.
Wasted Thyme and JoeyJunk Thank this. -
Nearly all states are like PA.

They are legit. They are retitled as "assembled". What that means and how they do it is beyond me, but they are a legit business and people are buying their trucks left and right.

The sale of glider kits are illegal. The sale of glider trucks are not. How the Elkhorn Valley folks are getting the chassis, from a buyers perspective, really isn't of the buyers concern. If it has a legal title and it can be plated, I can't see how someone taking advantage of one of their trucks could be held liable for anything. The builders on the other hand are definitely on sketchy road in my opinion.
flood Thanks this. -
It s called ship of theseus law.Boyd Coddington got charged for doing that years ago in California as his "oem" didn't meet emission.I believe he was unsuccessful in claiming exemption from all emissions laws as he built the vehicles pretty much from scratch with salvaged partsCat sdp Thanks this.

Truth is this could possibly be a replacement one. When you total a glider you can order a replacement you just have to do paperwork. I purchased one. My VIN always comes up as an old Pete glider. Its not illegal to sell glider trucks.

If I remember correctly, you can buy a brand new glider (less engine) until 2023. A dealer like Fitzgerald is no longer able to sell them.
-
They're going to aim for eliminating all internal combustion engines.

If you look at the interior pics of the red flattop they have you can clearly see the def gauge is still in the dash. Lol. Plus they’re selling X15’s with extremely low miles so it’s not hard to put two and two together. A glider is designated by the VIN and these aren’t gliders. But more power to them for making money until they get caught.Dino soar, Roberts450, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this.
