Maybe try NFI. I’m pretty sure they have some dedicated accounts in your area, and they do hire students. I keep seeing on the of there trailers, that 92% of drivers are home daily.
Jmelendez1223 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
I would jump on that FXF driver apprenticeship program IMMEDIATELY before it's taken. Location is right next to where you live and FedEx has an internal job board, so you can transfer to FL in the future.
That Newark/Elizabeth area is saturated with trucking jobs because you got the airport and railyards there. Practically all the LTL's are around there. Parcel companies like UPS, USPS and FedEx Express. Grocery companies like Wakefern/ShopRite. All kinds of different intermodal companies...too many to name. Car Haulers like Jack Cooper and Cassens Transport and all kinds of waste management/garbage haulers around that area too. It's Tony Soprano's wet dream...lol.
But yeah, I would jump on that FXF apprenticeship program. FXF also has their own intermodal trailers called "multi-model". Not your typical container trailer because they use '53 trailers, so it can't be double stacked. FedEx Express also has a barn in Elizabeth. Both FXF and FXE are ACTUAL FedEx employee's. FXE drivers are known as RTD, and they also have a driver apprenticeship program for their dockworkers and couriers who want to move up to become a RTD driver. Obviously UPS also has their own in-house training program to become a feeder driver. Saia in Newark tops out almost $32 an hour for P&D and they also have a dock to driver program. If you can't be hired as a driver at any of the LTL's, apply to be a dockworker instead. Work your way up to become a driver. If car hauling interest you, Cassens Transport in Newark has a training program, but it's not a local job though. Sheehan in Seacaucus is a union beer distributor and they train new students. Same with Bartlett in Newark delivering milk. They have an apprenticeship program for both Class A & B. Waste Management in Newark might have an apprenticeship program. They do in PA. And yeah, Roadtex does train new students.
Good luck.Gearjammin' Penguin, jmz, Jmelendez1223 and 2 others Thank this. -

We've got a lot of construction companies looking for drivers in Jersey. Crisdel is right in South Plainfield. I'm pretty sure Farino & Sons in Branchburg needs drivers too and that's a union gig. Then you got the crane & rigging outfits like Casey, Lomma, etc. They all need drivers.
McUzi, BigDog Trucker, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this.
