Lost 4th and 9th gears

    I was pulling a long grade in massachussets with 45600 lbs in box in 9th gear all of a sudden i felt/heard a bang and i lost 9th gear shifted to 8th finished climb pulled over and have ever gear but 4th and 9th.. please help give me an idea what to check before replacing trans any ideas what may have broke .. I b/t home skippng 4th and 9th and it seems fine .. i can sit at idol push shifter into 4th gear and dont engage.

    Most likely sheared the teeth off the inside of the input drive gear/damaged the front shift collar.

    sounds like you might have a case of this lol
    Although this sounded like a hundred niglets with hammers trying to escape
    I am sure your going to be pulling that transmission
    Depending on how many pieces were made it might be relatively cheap to fix

    Is this a Road Ranger?
    We have a Columbia with the same issue, what ever happened, it was years ago according to service records. We just learned to work around it.
