I would take the local job and these are the reasons why.
1. The OTR jobs aren't going anywhere, if you don't like working local you can find an ORT job.
2. It's a lot harder for a new driver to find a local job then it is to find an OTR job.
3. Working the local scene you will get a better feel for the good companies to work for in your area.
4. Local experience does count for a lot with a good smaller company that can use their brain. You don't want to work for a bottom feeder company anyhow.
5. You will make a paycheck as a local driver. With a big OTR outfit your going to struggle to make a check in the beginning.
6. Local experience is very valuable to a new driver, your going to be doing a lot of city driving, backing up trailers, and dealing with customers. Your going to learn the hardest parts about truck driving quickly as a local driver.
7. Your home in your own bed and your schedule will be a little more predictable.
8. It is easier to find your dream job as a local job. The good jobs don't get advertised, it's word of mouth. You will also be there to apply and interview, it's hard to do an interview when your in Kansas.
Take the local job and don't look back.
