one year ago we had an Eagle tarp system installed on our 53’ flatbed. The custom exterior height is exactly 13’6” to allow the interior height to allow containers because about 20% of our DOD loads are containers. Obviously containers dont need to be tarped but having the capability to carry them keeps our options open.
I highly recommend the Eagle system for its quality, ease of use and customization. I particularly love the tension system that doesn’t require a special tool nor grease. You can see the aluminum risers pulled and leaning on the back of the trailer. The front air release is so convenient as well.
there are plenty of things I would change about our 53’ Dorsey Trailer if I had it to do over again but the conestoga was a home run
For the record about this picture, we drove the trip with the trailer axels split and only closed them while waiting to be unloaded.![]()
Love our Conestoga

Really nice setup. What would you change on the Dorsey trailer? Looks like its a good fit for what y'all do .cke, CAXPT, singlescrewshaker and 2 others Thank this.

First let me say Dorsey makes a quality product and all the changes are because I didn’t know what I didn’t know when we bought the trailer.
I was told by someone who hired/leased us on that I HAD TO HAVE STEEL TRAILER or we would loose out on the most profitable loads with the DOD. This appears to be outdated info and now the only requirement is a WOOD DECK for blocking and bracing. We have carried the biggest 1.1 that a trucker can carry without involving the department of energy and I always ask the question if we could load an aluminum trailer with an all wood deck here. The answer is always Yes, the only requirement is the wood deck.
1) I would have saved weight with a combo or all aluminum trailer
2) aluminum rims for looks and less weight
3) no coil package for less weight
4) deeper winches except by the wheels
5) have all trailer container locks moved 3-6” forward to make it easier to latch the conestoga tension system.
6 front axel lift system
Again no fault of Doresy, they make a good product at a reasonable price.Last edited: Aug 30, 2025

Best part is, now you don't have to secure the containers. Just close the curtain and roll!
Just kidding LOL, I think I read in a different thread that you have container locks???cke, Bean Jr., CAXPT and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yep, 2 for 20 ft
1 for a heavy 20 ft
1 for a 40 ft -
So jealous of all that storage space
cke, CAXPT and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
Can you take that Conestoga kit and have it put on a different trailer? Or is it built specifically for that Dorsey?
cke, CAXPT and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
Eagle can install on any trailer including step decks.
the one on my trailer is welded in place. The rolling tarps can come off but the front bulkhead and side rails are permanently installed.cke, BoostedTeg, CAXPT and 2 others Thank this. -
In the photo, who's the guy in the orange shirt standing by the trailer?

Either I’m color blind, or you are, but I see a pink shirt!
