Atkins was destined for short-term only: there are backfires later on. Calories are the most important thing, but nutrition as well, so just eating mostly your favorite food and cutting out others isn't smart either. We eat too much, burn too little and get too little nutrition.
You want to lose weight, walk a bit, lump some loads, eat fruits and vegetables while taking in a fair amount of protein. Remember, protein is muscle sparing, and it does no good to lose muscle as weight. I'm talking regular guys and gals, not just us iron benders.
