I wouldn't say they are worthless. OOIDA has won some lawsuits that has benefited us. But they sure don't have the kind of pull the ATA has. Lobbying does no good without the big bucks to hand out too. Politicians expect their campaigns to be financed if they vote your way.

Money talks bs walks. I'm more of a fan of OOIDA than ATA.

ATA imo is the speaker for megas. Like to think they have the best interest of the little guy but they don't

I agree the ATA represents the megas only. Every bad regulation we have to suffer with can be traced back to the ATA.

It's not even an opinion, you are just speaking the truth. Dan England was the chairman at one point. That was back in his good ole days of testifying before Congress to legislate away competition in the name of "safety".

Just take a look at their general officers. Ruan, Garner, FedEx, and CRST are represented in there. The current chairman alone is President of both Triple G and Southeastern Motor Freight. Plenty of nepotism too. Some bios even talk about how their family members have been officers in the past.

The ATA is a trade organization, not a trucking organization. They will always look to serve the interest of large corporations.

Many of you are keying in on the right answer. One poster inquired about the mega's profits. Well, the answer is the funneling of funds to the good ol' boys network, I mean the ATA.

Yes, it's odd how the guys hauling the least freight are making the rules the rest of us have to follow. Unfortunately, they own the legislatures.

As for OOIDA, they have lost credibility over the last few years because they keep picking the wrong battles. They have their priorities, which don't truly line up with most O/O's priorities. I stopped my membership when I realized they weren't going to champion any of the causes I cared about.

Market rates have dropped because there are too many bottom-feeders out there underbidding the market. They have a fantasy about making millions in trucking, or buying themselves a job, or a place to live in their new country, so they get their cheap authority and hit the road. They have no industry knowledge or business acumen. Since they don't do their proper market research, they drive the market down by taking loads for anything offered.

So, once again, I harp on about classifying drivers as skilled labor. With that classification, we could enforce standards and get rid of the bottom-feeders, which would raise rates.

One account I know swift and NFI has they're getting 1400 on 350 mi 15+ loads a day. The rest gets farmed out. I wouldn't exactly call that cheap. 6,250LB light ### loads

Believe me they don't pull cheap
