What are the chances of getting as many owner operators and small outfits as possible to agree not to haul anything at less than a specific rate per mile? Would that be like trying to get a burlap sack full of barn cats to "get along"?
Are there enough owner operators and small outfits to have a significant impact on the market? Is there already a group attempting to organize? Are there enough mega carriers that they would just capitalize on the pause and buy more trucks to fill the void? I'm interested to hear what the edumacated folks have to say about it.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
There have been attempts, but lack of funding equals failure. The closest we currently have is OOIDA, but like I said, they only pursue their interests, not ours.
As an O/O, you are a business entity. This means collusion laws apply.
Also, as a single/handful truck O/O, how much time and money are you willing to invest in a political action committee?
And finally, as has been mentioned earlier, there will always be plenty of ignorant bottom-feeders to destroy progress.
The first step in the solution? Make Commercial Drivers a skilled trade.D.Tibbitt, Brettj3876, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this. -
Anyone noticed the number of Prime trailers on the road and in yards?
Every single one of those trailers were a different color and logo a couple of years ago.
Prime sucked a bunch of freight out of the market.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
90% of freight gets moved by companies 10 (or 5 can't remember) trucks or less but yea you can't get o.o to agree on anything. You know how much that's been brought up on hereD.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and LameMule Thank this.

Driving truck isn't a skilled trade. Driving truck well is a skilled trade. You just have to watch someone take 15 attempts at a parking spot to see the lack of skill. Maybe it would be reform to the cdl test requirements that would filter out skilled vs un skilled drivers? Just need to spitball ideas I suppose.mitmaks, D.Tibbitt, ronjeremyjr and 1 other person Thank this.

Get the freight by service with a smile, something swift and jb can't do. That's how we get above market rates.
Just like with the Mary Jane......quality over quantity every day of the week
D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and LameMule Thank this. -
That's because Prime makes their money on the lease purchase scam. If they make any money hauling freight that's fine but if not that's fine too.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Their load board is full of $1.30/mile loads so there's that... There's a bunch of team loads at $1.70/mileD.Tibbitt and Rideandrepair Thank this.

You have to pay taxes on profit. There are other ways to get your money out.
Beside if the grunts seen the real profit they would all demand better working conditions. They see small profits then they think they better keep there mouths shut.D.Tibbitt, magoo68, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.
