Yes I've head the same thing. It does make sense because if you look at the chart on wolfstreet.com it shows the boom/bust cycle... it sucks tho because so many people will lose business
Low rates

I'm into a specialized reefer market that others can't just move in and outbid me on. The market in my area has seen some tightening up, but rates have remained constant because of the limited capacity to find motor carriers who can do the work correctly and reliably.Midwest Trucker and gokiddogo Thank this.

I picked up a load today from a huge shipper, hundreds of loads a week type. I've got several different brokers I've hauled for out of this place.
I checked in and got my paperwork to give to the forklift driver. I noticed a piece of paper attached to the order. It was a list, attached by mistake, from JBHUNT listing load orders from top to bottom, including my load.
They are evidently the procurement agent for this huge shipper. Even though I've never seen or booked one load through them for this shipper over the years.
I wonder how many layers down the pipe, and how many percentages were paid, the load traveled before it got to me. LOLSteveScott and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
What is Specialized reefer market? What type of work goes into get it done correctly versus any other load being hauled? On time, damage free,... what else?
Edit... Possibly lumping it/breaking it down yourself?Last edited: Apr 18, 2019

Yes and no. Some shippers are slower then others to catch on to the change in market conditions. It also depends how often they are solicited by trucking companies and brokers.
Good trucking companies keep their mouths shut and everybody benefits. While others constantly undercut and ruin it. It sounds harsh but the more ignorant the shipper in regards to conditions, the better.SteveScott Thanks this. -
There you go. I have a customer of the same type and other then out of good faith lowering the prices down from sky high, I haven’t been asked for any decreases. They know the market and trust I’ll take care of them and I do. So, they never say anything other then provide perfect service to our edit, edit, edit, gotta be on time every time product and we’re good!

If everybody understood how to do it, then it wouldn't be specialized.

Dry van freight loaded to a reffer I suppose

Reefer generally pays more than van freight, so no that's not it.
