Those $1.00 per mile loads out of a bad freight area are scooped up all the time. They are not meant for you owner/operators. It's the big boys like Swift who take them. They got paid well to travel into those parts and they want their truck back into the good lanes at any price and as quick as possible.

A couple of days ago, I noticed that the local used truck lots are FULL in my neck of the woods. There are even a couple of pre-2000 trucks that have been sitting for over a month. Last summer and autumn, those pre-2000’s sat on the same lots for a few days, and poof!, they were gone.

It is called invisible hand. Nobody can fight against it because it is The law of economics. Only way you can survive this keep your exenses low as possible.
Oh by the way it will hit everybody no matter of trailer type or source. ( seems some people think themselves special enough from others )

A few minutes of research will show this is absolutely false. The biggest myth in trucking is that the megas pull cheap freight.

I'm not saying they don't ever pull a cheap load, but far more buck a mile cheap loads are pulled by 1 to 5 truck carriers.

BS. I live in NH and work in Mass. I see TMC pulling bailed cardboard to Ohio every day with multiple trucks. It's $1.00 per mile. All those trucks are coming back from way up VT. Some pickup lumber and the rest pickup cardboard.

Swift does the same but just cardboard
