LTL carriers

Yeah well good luck on that being that most linehaul guys have a lot of seniority , except 4 central trans I started on their linehaul division before going local. But u do get paid by the mile and. By the hour, those guys make a lot of money . U drive to a location and either u meet and turn back around and go back to ur terminal which with conway as soon as u got to the meet point u would call linehaul and let them know and then u would get paid by the hour until the other guy came and u swapped trailers . Then u would have to call linehaul again to get dispatched and then u would be back on the mile. Or u could go to another terminal and work on the dock 4 like 5 or 6 hours and u would get paid by the hour until of coarse u got dispatched and then u would be on the mileage pay again.

 

The ltl world is great but we had a guy get laid off after 14 years with the company just because of job classification. The company decided they didn't need the to extraboard driver so they told them "bye." We also had a terminal shut down without warning and drivers with over 20 years senority had no option to transfer. Most of these drivers were coming to work backing under their set driving to a terminal 300 miles away drop & hook then back home again for years. They are now drawing an unemployment check or maybe with another ltl company with "0" years senority. You never know in the ltl world. They are also some of the most spoiled drivers someone will ever meet. We have scheduled laydown runs that pay over $1500 a week. Nobody bids on them because it might snow a few times in that area or they can't make it home to see mommy every day.

 

Well freight is one of slowest in trucking but not all freight get companies get slow like at conway I down to one day a wk and at central I worked everyday and at fedex I might work only 4 days a wk but that only happened once so far. Now u have to watch certain food distr companies because u will bust ur booty unloading the truck like I think sygma , maines sysco , mclaine and us foods u will touch each box and take it into the store. Tanker work is pretty stable and its not hard work at all , I did tanker too from gasoline to cement and I didn't work hard at all.

 

Food distribution isn't as stable as you would think. I worked at Mclane for 3 years and each year we would lose more and more business. Why you ask? Competetion. When you start at these companys you go to extraboard where you might sit for several years until you have enough senority to pick up your own bid. Or if you kiss enough booty you can get picked up to run team with a senior driver. But believe me YOU WILL EARN YOUR MONEY!! I haul fuel now and love it. The work is night and day compared to food distribution, an so far the money has been there. I orginally wanted to get on with an LTL company when I left Mclane, but I never received a call back on any of my apps with them. (Con-Way, Fed-EX, SAIA) But for now im happy with how things worked out. Tank work is great!

 

I agree when I did tanker work I loved it too , it easy and constant in my opinion. I did fuel for coraluzzo's down here in md , but they had me in a truck with bad brakes for 2 months and never fixed them and that's why I left them but the work was easy .

 

Lol !!!! Yeah its dangerous but its all types of tanker work most is non toxic and u also have food grade like hr ewell , foodliner , etc.
