I can't stand manuals. Estes has mostly GARBAGE internationals and some auto Volvo's. I can't wait until the company brings in even more auto Volvo.

Manuals are the worst. I hate how dependable they are, how you can roll start them with a dead battery or a bad starter, and how they start off in the gear you choose. I like how the automatic skip shifts, lugs the motor, and tries to decide what gear it wants to be in while making a turn at an intersection. Take your time, automatic, I kind of wanted to die today.

Except nobody asked you. You’re probably some OTR guy who loves gears because you don’t get to play with them enough. If you had to bump dock after dock in a big city every single day I bet you would be singing a different tune. Next time try to keep the negativity away from any post I’m on. You will seem less petulant and whinney that way.

Let’s see there, genius, you posted a question on a PUBLIC FORUM about LTL companies. I haul multi stop stuff in a daycab,(you know, LTL) so that applies just a little don’t you think? Hauled 15 stop loads OTR with Ashley Furniture, too. I knew someone would post the BS “it’s so tough in a city my whittle leg gets tired whiny garbage” so thanks for not letting me down. Gee, you LTL guys sure have it tough.

Read first sentence again. Reading is fundemental. Who said anything about legs hurting, not being able to shift, being too lazy? It’s for convenience my man. Again, you’re probably one of those guys who just loves playing with a stick. Enjoy your day pal. LOL!

    Oh jeez...here we go.

I actually liked manuals more in the city. More precise backing, and easier to time traffic pulling out of a driveway. Also, proper gear selection / skip shifting for the weight I'm carrying as @shogun mentioned. Please don't call me names for my opinions! I'm a trucking Luddite who just likes to shift (my car is also a manual).

Now, on linehaul, I don't care much that I'm assigned an automatic, but I manually downshift to climb hills in order to maintain momentum because my truck doesn't do so early enough in a climb.

Btw @surfgod83 - Dayton Freight has all automatics in the newer tractors, but I didn't respond earlier because we aren't down in your area.

I always see them in Volvos between Cincy and LVL. You've probably seen them. Their logo is ACT.

Great information. Thanks for all of the input. There is a way to say you prefer manual transmissions without trying to be condescending and you did that perfect. I’ve heard great things about Dayton freight but you’re correct, they are not in my area, or even close. Again thanks for all the information. I did just find out that R&L carriers have switched to all automatic fleet.
