Can anyone tell me how to get a list of LTL companies near where I live?
I live near Tacoma, Washington. Do you know of any that will accept a recent graduate? I can't see starting out OTR at .26cpm when I might be able to make 16 to 20 dollars an hour.

They will not want a rookie driver. What you can't see is what they are looking for. Those jobs usually go to drivers who have been out there for a couple of years. Your thinking kind of sounds like I want to be a doctor, but can't see going to college all those years. Will anyone hire me as a doctor straight out of high school?

I wouldn't drive for just $.26 per mile either. Most companies start you at .32

Well, I thought I would check it out. After all, look what Bill Gates was able to do without a college education. (Microsoft)
So, far all the companies I have checked with that hire new drivers start at .26cpm, or close to that. Crete starts alot higher, but you have to have some experience. If you know of someone else I should check into, let me know. I might add that I am not brand new to this. I drove in 1974 when they didn't have CDL. An old cab over Peterbilt w/ 10 speed. Thanks for the replies. -
Union companies will hire newbies. They will start you on the dock then you work your way up from there. Check out ABF, they hire newbies and will send you to there school in Fort Smith ,AR for 4 wks then you will be a combo worker. Best of Luck As far AS companies that take newbies with better starting pay, check out CFI/CONWAY TRUCKLOAD I know a guy who went through there program is enjoying it. You can read his post. look up (mikel).Semper Fi

Peninsula is supposed to be a good regional company, if you can get on with them. Not sure what their requirements are, but I know they have a terminal in Auburn.

there is not an LTL company out there that will not hire new drivers...
even the union companies hire new grads...
heck - ABF has its own school.
we hired about 14 new grads in cincy loast year - they start out at 75% of top rate (56 cents a mile and 23 bucks an hour for all other time).
then in a year go to 80% in 1.5 years 90% and full scale at 2 years. -
none of our gnew guys worked the dock - all went straight out on road..
so marine 68... what was your mos? I was a 2305 (1st div. command eod tech).

latanea; I started out as an 0311 grunt. Went to VietNam and then went to Camp Lejeune, N.C.. The company office found out I could type so they asked me if I would like to work in Admin.. Duhhhhh, anything to get me out of humping the hills. When I re-uped I asked to go to California. The only job available was for a legal clerk. I said ok, make me a legal clerk. Poof, your a legal clerk. I was discharged from El Toro, Marine Air Base, Santa Ana, California...If I wouldn't have had a family I would have stayed in. Not a good life with a family... How did you like it??
